But won’t someone think of the families of the players? They didn’t sign up for this? And sure, players can opt out, but can they truly?

Biggest single day of the NBA is Christmas Day, biggest single day of the NFL is Thanksgiving Day. Not saying it’s equal or worth it, just that there’s precedent.

And I think if push comes to shove, agreements would be made to share the grounds. Worst case they use the smaller grounds that are able to because I also strongly doubt crowds will be allowed for anything before next year.

Just make the Aussie Rules version of hurling. Cricket bats and balls but you've got everything else based on how things work in football.

The AFL set out pretty clear rules for all clubs to follow and then Adelaide yet again went “fuckin lol no thanks”

Like have whatever opinion you want about whether the AFL should have made those rules, but they absolutely have the authority to impose them on clubs so don't go all snowtown sovereign citizen. Adelaide knew what the rules were, they pissed all over them, now their fans are crying about the idea of there being consequences for that.

What a surprise that after the Crows have routinely failed to hold their administrators accountable for overseeing several idiotic breaches of conduct (which generally offer negligible benefit to the club anyway), we are once again apparently the only club that couldn't get this right. Sigh.

At least it's been confirmed that draft picks won't be on the table for the punishment. Most likely a fine plus potentially something else, not sure what that would be. It's not like we've got any premiership points for them to dock. Maybe the players involved will be suspended from training for a while or something?

I wonder, was it the players just being dickheads, or were the rules not properly communicated to them by someone in charge at the club? Whoever it is should pay the fine out of their own paycheck.

I don't think they really want to do financial fines, given the situation of clubs and the league right now.

But taking away draft picks (even if it is pick ~70) might lead to a court case.

A sub 20k fine and three weeks worth of negative press oughta do it.

In terms of getting the competition back up and running again, yeah very much wrong. The AFL are desperate to show that the rules they impose on the clubs are followed to the letter, as the Federal/State Govs basically don’t trust the AFL and it’s teams to maintain distancing/quarantine rules. If the Govs don’t trust the AFL, we’re not going to see a season happening for a long time, if at all this year.

Pretty much. From what I have read, there was a group of 8 players who were kicking a footy. Thats less than what the current guidelines from the SA government were allowing.

Then the AFL came in and said "no no, we cant have any advantages against victorian teams here" and turned the screws.

Yeah, I get that, its just shithouse.

If the situation was reversed, and all the vic teams could train, but wa, sa and qld couldnt, do you honestly think they would hold back the league?

no, no they wouldnt,

Maybe upon being told the rules for COVID-19 set by the competition they are part of, the Adelaide Crows Football Club should have...followed them?

Other clubs haven't seemed to find this a difficult concept to master.

If the situation were reversed and a Victorian club was training when Adelaide was restricted from doing so, you would absolutely be complaining about how it's unfair, Vic bias.

Tbh in that scenario i would expect the AFL to say "relocate to victoria" and then if any clubs didnt want to, they would say "eh, dont care, gave you the option" and still allow training
