To be fair, winter ball in Australia -> Korea -> preseason in Japan -> sent home to the USA -> back to Korea w/ two-week quarantine -> KBO Opening Day is probably more inconvenient a winter than a good number of his teammates.

There's a player they were referencing as likely being posted after this year, and I think he's the one because he's a year or so from Asian baseball free agency. If it's the same in the KBO as it is in the Japan then it's after nine full years of service time.

A previous broadcast mentioned his defense as a liability. But still I'd think a guy hitting 30 homeruns at AAA would at least be decent trade material for the Rockies.

I was just thinking this and doing some digging: he was a 16th round pick who was mediocre at best pretty much his entire MiLB career, until last year where he exploded in AAA. Thing was though it happened in the PCL which was notoriously offense happy last year. Scouts don't seem to like him much, apparently even the most favorable recent write-up of his where he was listed as the Rockies' 27th best prospect, the scouting report said he "had AAAA-hitter written all over him." :shrug:

He's only 25 though so I imagine if he crushes it in the KBO he has a decent shot of jumping back over to MLB.

my understanding is a combo of defensive liabilities (he's 1B only and not super good at it) and some major struggles against lefties (I think he's something like .230 career avg vs lefties in the minors?)

But yeah, if he does well in the KBO and can show that he can hit lefties decently he's got a real good shot of making it back to the majors someday
