Not really, unless you think LGBTQ+ supporters were using "gay" to mean stupid, which they weren't. It was a classic "methinks she doth protest too much" tactic, and if the Shakespeare reference wasn't a tipoff that's been a social tactic for a really long time.

Sure, there were some that were just “lol gay” but I would say the majority went deeper than that.
