The manga does make a solid point that giving Yusuke more money wouldn't help anything because he'd just blow it all on art stuff and still end up poor and starving. :hmmyes:

The manga also seems to give Makoto an actual personality which is nice.

Impractical practicality
Because it was called royal I was thinking battle royal and had the impression this was going to be like persona 4 arena so I don't even take a look at it because I don't really care for fighting games. I didn't realize it was a big expansion!

Will I need a guide to get the true end for this and max all social links? In normal P5 the only one I missed was Haru from what I remember. Anyway downloading it now.

You don't need a guide to get to the new content. Just make sure you don't ignore the new confidants (Faith and Councillor), and be aware that Akechi is now a manually progressed social link like everybody else, instead of an automatic plot-based one. Keep his up as well. As long as you stay on top of those three confidants, you'll unlock the new content no problem.

For maxing every social link on a first playthrough you may want to use a guide, but it's to taste. I got pretty drat close without using a guide.

If you've already played P5 vanilla before you'll probably be able to do all social links without a guide. Just keep a couple of things in mind:

Focus on Temperance as much as possible early on. It's worth an awful lot of free social stat points throughout the game. Her rank 10 also gets you back a significant amount of nights.

Get Fortune to rank 5 as early as you can as well. That will save you many days and nights in exchange for money, which is easy to get. Her Money and Luck readings are also extremely useful.

I used a guide just for the social link answers (some of the right responses are pretty obtuse), and maxed everything with several days to go. Actually I maxed before the third semester. (Though that’s mostly because I abused the gently caress out of fortunes luck and affinity readings):

Just some things to keep in mind:
Don’t watch DVDs until you find the book that gives you an extra point for each movie watching.

Don’t read books until you find the book that makes you a speed reader so it takes less time to read through the book and get the points.

Bathhouse: 3 charm
Big Bang Burger: 3 guts
Work at flower shop, convenience store, and beef bowl on special days to get 3 points for their social stat instead of 2.
There’s a drink you can get each Sunday at the underground walkway in Shibuya that gives you an increased social stat without wasting time.
Movie theater watching gives you 3 points for a social stat when you first watch it.
Level fortune link as soon as you get a chance to utilize her readings.

There’s more but those are the main tips I can think of.

there's enough train time and general lack of options in the early game that I made sure to keep a book from the library on me, read it on the train, and usually had time to finish it that night at leblanc so I could make sure to have another one ready for when train time popped up again

I got the speed reading book around June-ish iirc so there was plenty of time to finish some of those before that, and the early stats are really helpful

And, somehow, it actually has a full on story that works well as a sequel to the game. One that kind of makes the cast seem like they were just lazy before since they can wrap up dungeons in a day or so and still have time for wacky hijinks and long travel afterwards.

It's funny when I first looked up how many stat points you need for each level and realized Royal had bumped all the numbers up I was really worried they'd turned stats into even more of a grind. But no, they did that because you get SO MUCH more free time and free points (particularly for knowledge) that they had to do that to prevent you from being maxed out on everything by Palace 4.

Another helpful hint if you're looking to raise one stat in particular: if you use the bathrooms in either Leblanc or the school Joker will tell you how close he is to leveling up each stat.

What are the odds?
I found a fun little thing in Royal I wasn't aware of. Don't recall it being in vanilla either, tho I'm not certain I have ever tried.

If you equip the team DLC outfits - the victory music after a battle changes. Like if you use the Velvet Room outfit, you get something similar to the Velvet Room song. Using all the Aquamarine outfits gave something else. Not sure if it's just MC or everyone in the party, or EVRYONE who has to have them equipped, but - neat little touch.

That would also happen with the DLC outfits in vanilla. The only one I ever bothered buying was the Persona 4 Dancing set, which changed the fight themes to Reach Out to the Truth and the P4 victory music (I think?). That one ruled.

Only Joker's outfit affects the battle BGM. I usually gravitate towards the if... costumes for the sweet classic SMT music.

Edit: Battle theme (Old Enemy, from if... and repurposed as the Amala Network Battle theme in Nocturne)
Victory theme (It's a mashup of the SMT1 and 2 level up themes)

You get enough train seats that you should at least be borrowing books from the school library to read these. Also, if you're midway through leveling up Kawakami's confidant (which you absolutely should, her ability is the best), you'll get some slack off in class moments that you can read too.

Which is odd because you could in P3 and P4. Hell, in P3, you could find random items in the school restrooms (I think) and have a chance to increase your condition to Good or Great the first time you used it each day. And IIRC, P4 gave you a small chance for a social link pip for one of your non-max links. >_>

Why does everyone think I'm going to get in trouble?

I think he just does his chores off camera. Like, he’d spend maybe 30 min to an hour doing his normal laundry and taking a quick soak at the bathhouse. These chores would be separate from you choosing to spend time doing them; the dirty laundry is super filthy and probably takes extra long to clean and when you choose to spend a night at the bath, you’re explicitly spending a long while just relaxing and soaking.

Welp, got an update on this crazy teeth pulling experience on getting those Persona 5 Royal avatar and theme bundles.

Originally got only the set from getting the platinum, talked to Sony two weeks ago and last week, and they said they'd escalate my case. Contacted them again today for the third time, and they got me two of the codes!

The only set I am missing now is the very first one for beating Kamoshida's castle. Sony rep said that they were currently out of codes for that set, so I guess my thing isn't done yet. Will try again next week. I don't even know why I want these themes so badly lol.

I though it was a great mechanic, in theory. From a gameplay perspective, it could get annoying, but if you were careful, you could hobble your way through Tartarus a couple nights while you were sick. It just really really sucked in conjunction with not having direct command control over your teammates, so the MC was even more important since the AI at the time wasn't the best (especially for Mitsuru for some reason). And you couldn't change their AI function mid-battle.

Here's something a lot of P3 players probably don't remember (because I believe they took it out for FES and definitely for P3P). If you didn't spent time with a social link at least once every 30 days, the arcana would reverse, and you'd have to spend a time slot with them repairing your failing friendship before you could continue to advance it. :v:

Just looked it up to refresh myself. You can reverse a social link in P3 by:
1. Making plans with a link and then failing to show up or cancelling them.
2. Say some obviously wrong things in a few key dialogue choices during some social link events. (IIRC, it was super easy to reverse Yukari at rank 5 if you try to do some chauvinist-level white knighting. :v: )
3. Get into "will they/won't they" territory (usually rank 6 or 7 until max) with multiple romance options at the same time. (Which made juggling the harem even harder.)
4. Failing to spend any time with a social link every 60 days.
5. Completing the scripted reversal as part of the social link with Nozomi (Fat Moon Kid).
