I agree, there's a reason PPE training is a thing. What frustrates me is the same guy was posting two months ago like this was the end of the world and made sure to mention his guns and ammo in every post.

I've heard stories about people dying from leaving their masks on too long as well from lack of oxygen and/or carbon monoxide. One story was some old guy in his car wearing a mask that crashed and killed someone else, and another one about some kids in Korea wearing masks during gym class or some poo poo. Not sure if the stories are true but it sounds like people wearing an N95 mask 24/7 out of fear could be a problem

That too. I can't find any exact data, but they are single use so very likely they'll be "saturated" by the end of the day anyway. The air flow restriction is absolutely a real thing and the FDA warns people who are already at risk from using them too long.
I saw two old people sitting with surgical masks in their car while driving yesterday...

Just got an email for the Hot Rod Power Tour gold pass waiting list is signed up for. They pushed it from June to August this year but nope even if the car is done that is way to soon to drive 3500 miles around the mid west.

How much is everyone actually driving these days? I think I'm down to 100 miles/month.

I go into the office once a week for hands-on stuff, 12 miles each way, and very occasional trips to the store as needed. So probably around 100 miles/month. And I'm rotating 3 cars so they keep fresh(er). Been a month or more since I bought gas, which is almost a pity, it being so cheap.

Trickly chargers: I had good luck with the $5 Harbor Freight unit, with one caveat: make sure you check the water/acid level regularly if it sits a lot, and has a constant discharge/recharge, like if you have an alarm on the car. I killed the battery in my Cutlass by not checking it. The constant drain from the alarm and recharge by the trickle charger made it dry. It took a couple years, mind you.

Oh. Well he's right I mean viruses are small but masks aren't used to protect the wearer either...

I touched the poo on Facebook over this concept, people are so loving ignorant. Just because something sounds like it makes sense doesn't make it fact, yet this poo poo spreads like crazy. What makes me super angry is how arrogant the people spreading it get, when they're 100% wrong. I'm only going to get in to it here because people here actually listen.

I worked for 6 years designing medical lab equipment which had filters for pathogens. Yes pathogens are small. This also means they have almost no inertia and are subject to microscopic forces, electrostatic and things like that. They almost never travel alone and when they do they don't travel far. You would be surprised at how effective even a lovely wide open filter is at trapping pathogens. Pathogens are attached to dust, droplets, skin flakes, hair, etc. You know, things that are super easy for even a loose filter to pick up. So yeah, that's why a mask is effective. It's not stopping the virus. It's stopping the stuff that's carrying the virus. We used filter material designed for laying down under landscaping to stop the growth of weeds, and it was over 99% effective at barring loving tuberculosis from getting through it.

So to debunk the meme, think of it like this: Putting up a chainlink fence to stop mosquitoes will work because in this case all the mosquitoes can't fly and jump on to the baseballs and basketballs that are rolling across the field. The fence stops those just loving fine.

It's interesting to see how prices are reacting to the current state of affairs. Random solar charger on Amazon is up 25% over just a few months ago. Looks like lots of people have cars that aren't staying topped up.

For what it's worth, I used this controller and this panel. Both are the same price as when I bought them, the controller is in stock for rapid delivery, but the panel is listed a few weeks out.

It was a fun day soldering project (i.e., not plug & play), but has worked great ever since. I have one in each of two cars and they both stay fully charged just based on the panel sitting on the dash.

Additionally (you probably know this already but just in case) the n95s are rated that way because that's their minimum filtration efficiency at around 300nm particle size. Due to the electret media type you mentioned they actually get more effective below that minimum efficiency point at the rated size, not less effective.

Depends on your point of view. A large part of the current problem with people not taking this seriously enough is pain hasn't been inflicted across the board.

Start taking things away and they might take notice. Its one thing when "everyone" being impacted are poors, brown people, olds and those with compromised immune systems. Its another when Meal Team 6's supply of chicken tenders and double cheeseburgers is threatened.

We've got a small amount of meat in the freezer, but by and large we don't have enough space to store very much. I'm experimenting with Beyond sausages and mince as drop-in replacements for some of our common recipes. Very interested to see how meat unavailability shakes out.

Not at all - if I'm remembering right, it's just attaching two wires that go to the panel. I think I over complicated it because I attached a connector to the panel so that I could unplug it, but you don't need to do that. The controller does want the battery connected before the panel, but you can accomplish this by just covering the panel when not in use (i.e., stick it in a bag).

You could definitely crimp it instead. I'd even consider wire nuts at this point, since it's presumably sitting in a driveway and not being driven.

I know we're local, I'd offer to help you if ... ya know. We weren't in the middle of a quarantine. I'll help you solder it together after this if you want to wire nut it for now :v:
