First time I saw The Movie was wonderful because it had an extra audio track of my dad in the background complaining that TIE was one of his favorite movies and they were leaving out the good parts.

Is a reference to an 80s band in 1996 really topical?

It was a huge success and critically praised when it came out. A lot of people consider it one of the best 50s sci fi movies. For 1955, it had good special effects too.

I mean one of the points of the selection for The Movie was going with a title that was pretty entertaining on its own merits to maybe not put off potential newcomers as hard as sitting through something the likes of, say, The Castle of Fu Manchu or Mad Monster might have been.

I liked MST3K the Movie, but I'm of the opinion that it really didn't need to be made (well, apart from their experience making it being what inspired the wonderful "Crow's Movie" host segments during Incredible Melting Man).

The Movie was formative in my sense of humor's development. I had never seen the show before (our cable company didn't get Comedy Central), but I had read about it on the Internet, so I rented it from Blockbuster on a Friday night after school; I was 12 years old.

I found it so funny I convinced my old man to watch it with me the next morning.

I'm surprised at how consistently chill it is. Once in a blue moon you'll get somebody complaining about a Mary Jo and Bridget riff or trying Joel v. Mike but the mods smack it down quick and I haven't seen it happen in ages. For a while there was a guy who tried to make fun of the Troll 2 riff but we started making fun of him and he never came back.

It seems mostly random, although they will do things like playing the un-riffed Birdemic on April Fool's.

I’ve been pretty pleased that alone among 90s nostalgia things, mst3k switched to having a woman be the lead and nobody has complained or made a dumb petition or tried to chase her off twitter. I’m not surprised, as mst3k fans are generally pretty chill and decent.
