When does IST update their new books? 12:00pm PST? I was able to add Daytripper to my cart and it was sold out as I started to check out.

Skip issue one since Judge Dredd starts with the second issue. Then read all 2000 issues since then in order.

The thing is that what people talk about from 2000AD are ongoing stories from an anthology. So you generally don't go "Start with July 10, 1982", people just read whatever story catches their eye. Judge Dredd is overwhelmingly the most popular feature to come out of 2000AD and his heyday was the early 80s, so Case Files 2-6 cover all the popular early stories (cursed earth, dark judges, Judge Cal, judge child, Apocalypse War). Most of the other popular series aren't as overwhelming as Dredd and you can just start at the beginning and read through.

Asking where to start with 2000AD is like asking where to start with Marvel Comics. It's an enormous question with no real answer.

Yeah, pick up the latest prog (issue) and go from there. The issues that have the start of the current stories are easily enoguh to get and are, at most, from 6-7 issues (and keep in mind those are weekly) back.

I recomend always buying off of the web store (and not the app) if you're going digital though as the digital versions on the webstore come in PDF/CBZ form and the app is a bit crap.

Oh and there's a ton of free comics on the web store too including the Judge Dread Casefile that has the Block Mania / Apocylipse war serials in them so you're not lacking for starting points.

There’s a new reprint series starting whenever comics come back too. Best of 2000ad or something like that. 5$ 100 page book.

What I've read has been decent-to-good. Ollie's Bargain Outlet used to have a bunch of deeply-discounted Manhunter TPBs, and I often wish I had picked them all up.

Is the walking dead humble bundle deal worth it? £14.50 for all the comics seems like a bargain but is the comic any good?

I’m a bit biased because I got to meet Charlie Adlard when he came to Tokyo but I really liked it.

It’s much better than the show and it reads quickly. I’d love to read it without pausing sometime (if there weren’t so many issues)

Gummy Bear Heaven ... It's where I go when the world is too mean.
It's soap operatic in the way that it's an easy read that really pulls you along with the desire to see what will happen next. It's lots of slow character builds with the tensions of knowing something bad will happen, but not knowing what.

I don't regret reading as much as I have (about half), but I also don't have much desire to get back into reading it.

For £15, you should be able to get a few days/weeks of enjoyment out of it, even if you tap out after a while.

There's a reason it exploded into an international phenomenon.

I read the first 50 issues and got burnt out very quickly on the misery porn of it all, but it is well written (if not repetitive) and if you like character drama amongst death and zombies give it a shot. The price is right at least.

Considering everything that is going on, I decided to read David Walker's Nighthawk. I didn't expect Marvel to publish such a book, though I can guess why it only lasted 6 issues.

Are there any other good comic books (superhero or not) that also deal with those themes? *

Hey guys, I didn’t see a general questions thread so sorry if I missed that, but my question can probably loop into recommended reading.

I’ve been getting into comics for the first time in years. I randomly picked up House of M, which cause me to go both backwards and forwards.

I read through New X-Men and Excalibur now. My question is, in Excalibur (2004), Beast shows up and he is “evil”. He doesn’t want to be called Beast, but he clearly is different than the last time I saw him in New X-Men. What’s up with this? Where did this story happen?

I know Astonishing picks up after New, but I read that years ago and skimming a summary, I didn’t see this Beast storyline.

Thanks for any help!

I haven’t read it but I assume that’s Dark Beast, McCoy from the Age of Apocalypse universe who made it over to 616 and showed up a few more times

I've been out of current comics for a long time. I usually like indie stuff like Eightball, Love and Rockets, etc, and also the 80's 90's DC/Vertigo stuff along with non-porno Heavy Metal comics a la Moebius. The most recent books I've checked out have been I think Southern Bastards and some of Saga, both of which I thought were good; is there anything current along these lines?

Bitch Planet by Kelly Sue DeConnick and Decorum by Jonathan Hickman and Mike Huddleston both seem like they could have been published in Heavy Metal. Bitch Planet has been going for a while so there's plenty of trades, Decorum is a mini series that just had issue 2 come out last week.

Thank you! Image does now seem like "early Dark Horse but big budget," which is very much up my alley.

What's some good weird tales style comics that are more than a one off joke page? Also some that are jokes is fine. I'm going for I guess a "strange fiction" kinda vibe and don't actually read too much comics so I don't know what I'm looking at.

Hell yeah forming! The part where the orange guy pulls a sword outta his head is super rad. It's a different overall feel from what I'm thinking of, though. More cosmic horror-y, so not, say, SSSS's kind of horror if you've seen that, even though there's ghosts and weird monsters and stuff like that.

I'll check these out

What about Vault, read more Vault (the publisher).

Try These Savage Shores or Black Stars Above for playing with horror at an expert level like Vertigo used to do. Resonant and Sera & The Royal Stars feel Image-adjacent and are also good times.

Fearscape is another standout but relies on a certain twist near the end that readers will either accept at face value or shout WTF.

Aside from Saga, my favorite recent Image books have been Chew, by John Layman and Rob Guillory (over and complete) and Sex Criminals, by Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky (ending soonish). If you have any interest in hip hop at all, I also strongly recommend Ed Piskor's colossal labor of love, Hip Hop Family Tree, published in four beautiful "treasury edition" volumes by Fantagraphics.

Also, where are people getting already released comics during Covid? Just ordering trades on Amazon or what?

Sex Criminals is wonderful.

You might also like Chew. It's a crime-action-horror-comedy, with surprising dramatic stakes, huge twists and shocking status quo changes, gross-out moments, real superhero-level badassery (people have powers, but it's not a superhero comic at all), and a lot of humor.

And most of Ed Brubaker's work is at least crime-adjacent: Sleeper (my favorite), its prequel Point Blank, Incognito, The Fade Out, Catwoman (there are three TPBs covering #1-37 of the early 2000s series; I strongly recommend at least Volumes 1 and 2, covering #1-24), and Daredevil (but read Brian Michael Bendis' Daredevil first, because it's even better than Brubaker's and leads directly into Brubaker's).

My local shop opened up three Wednesdays ago. They're allowing in store pick up, but some places are doing curbside.

I think the mail order sites are shipping?

I haven't gotten a trade in store in years. Amazon or In Stock Trades. I haven't looked to see if they are shipping.

ComiXology is always an option. I solely use it for old issues on sale, but they have new stuff day and date.

Have you read Stray Bullets? It's very much in the Jim Thompson noir tradition of petty crooks making bad choices that land them in the poo poo.
