AlexanderCA posted:There's some of "electing biden will just lead to a worse trump winning in 2024" argument I've seen around the forums. And I just wonder how anyone in the year 2020 and a global once in a century pandemic can feel they can predict politics 4 years out to inform their vote today. Because the conditions that existed which elected Trump will still exist after 4 years of a potential Joe Biden presidency. We can't address them because that means possibly admitting that eight years of Democrat Jesus before hand was actually a disaster in terms of materially improving the lives of anyone except the rich. Trump was just the first person to grab bottle of crazy and take the top completely off, and he won't be the last. 2016 happened. The Obama legacy was firmly rejected. We need to accept that and move on from it and stop trying in vain to pretend none of this occurred. Proud Christian Mom fucked around with this message at 21:56 on May 9, 2020 |

Via social media, I see my conservative suburban occasional swing voter friend and his friends are talking themselves into believing joe Biden is a far left radical. Even though this exact thing happened with Clinton, Gore, Kerry, and the other Clinton when they ran as moderates, why exactly did people think this wouldn't happen to Biden?

It's gonna really own when right wing media starts blasting this 24/7, and he pulls even further to the right to show that he's not a socialist. We can't risk spooking the precious "moderate" voters, after all! That's just good politics. Fister Roboto fucked around with this message at 01:03 on May 15, 2020 |

I can tell that my folks (older, college educated 60 year old African Americans from the South) who have voted Dem their entire life werent sold on Bernie, due to the "Socialism" thing. Hell a lot of young Black folks are also skeptical of Socialism/Communist stances because they feel the core idea of "A rising tide raises all boats" is perpetuating a race neutral idea of Social Improvement that will ignore the individual issues that plague Black folks or outright meet them with contempt when coming to the table.

I'm not even sure how you confuse "A rising tide raises all boats" with anything relating to socialism/communism since its been the right wing economic mantra that we've been telling ourselves for 40 years to justify massive tax cuts to the wealthy.

I was doing some research for something else, and I found this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Biden_1988_presidential_campaign#Kinnock_controversy Did you know Biden ran for president back in 1988? Did you also know his campaign ended after he got caught plagiarizing speeches from a British politician, and made up a bunch of stuff saying that he was a civil rights protester?
