Right now I'm basically ready to pull the trigger on Wirecutter's recommendation, the Denon AVR-S750H. Anyone got any strong feelings one way or another on that receiver?

Recommended the AVR-S750H to my mom for her new TV and was super impressed with its capabilities when I messed with it. I have a 4400H and it's probably not worth the price difference. Sounds like I may just be better off picking up a cheap x2600/x3500 and calling it a day. Finally ordered my subwoofer, an HSU VTF-2 Mk5. Shoutout to the Hsu people: they took a look at my room and said that the VTF-2 should be just fine for my space (versus the VTF-3).

HDMI 2.1 is a total shitshow, apparently the spec is still not 100% stable. There's people on AVS are freaking out because LG removed 48gbps from the spec page for one of their TVs [people on AVS freak out over every minor issue]. I know there's people struggling to get reliable 4k120 from their PCs on TVs labeled "HDMI 2.1."

I used Greentoe to get my C8 and it was great, and then I totally forgot about them. I've got a $350 offer in to them now and if that gets rejected I'll probably just order from Costco for $429. It's more expensive, but I'll get 3 extra years of warranty plus theoretically infinite warranty due to Costco's generous return policy.

Hi, I'd like some feedback on the following idea. I have two screens (of which one already there, a projector) and would like both to connect to a common Android TV Box. This box needs to give the smarts, a Plex Server, and would function as a mini-NAS that is synchronized with another NAS. The non projector screen would do double duty as an art piece. So I was thinking of doing this through a Samsung Frame TV for the art piece and connecting the Frame and the projector both to the NVIDIA SHIELD TV that functions as both Android TV Box, NAS and Plex server. Does this sound like a good idea? Plausible? Any issues you foresee? For instance, does the Art Mode of the Frame TV still work easily when not using Samsung's own Smart TV (Tizen based I think)? As well as other things I may have overlooked.

LG OLED 55" TVs - is there much of a practical difference between the OLED55B9PLA and the OLED55C9PLA? The latter is something like 20% more expensive, but the difference seems to be simply the processor and I'm not sure that'd be all that obvious unless they were viewed side-by-side.

Question about HDR, is it really necessary to set your TV's backlight to maximum to get the full effect HDR? Lots of tech sites recommend this, but I usually watch in a dim room and my TV is blindingly bright with the backlight at maximum.

Assassin's Creed likes to do these solid white loading screens and since I sit closer to my tv when gaming I ended up turning down the brightness on that input.

Usually when HDR signal is picked up it switches modes on the same input and cranks the brightness. At least that’s how my dumb Samsung lcd works

Yeah HDR signal should switch you to a different picture mode which you can edit independent of your regular picture settings.

Can anyone with an LG OLED CX comment on how well it handles motion? I was eyeing the CX as a replacement for my current Sony x900e, but I'd like to hear more about how it handles fast moving objects. Motion blur and image ghosting are like my Achilles heels, and once I become aware of them, I can't stop noticing them. I haven't had much of an issue with the x900e in that regard, but since it's my primary television, I want something that will be more future-proofed for the upcoming game consoles and PC graphics cards. I also considered a C9, but it's literally a half inch too tall to fit in the space I have available for it unless I sand down the legs on the TV stand. Thanks!

I am eyeing a 65" CX for $1950. Is there any reason to expect a better deal than that or a much cheaper price on the BX when it finally comes out. Also, what is the overall opinion of extended warranty on the LG OLEDs. I can get a 5 year for about $250 from Asurion through the store and I am thinking about doing it just for piece of mind since I have never paid that much for a TV.

The TVs are generally well calibrated from the factory and there's enough variance between sets that it's a crapshoot if rtings settings would be closer or further away from perfect than the factory calibration. Just adjust if something doesn't seem right to you, but first give yourself time to get used to it.
