Has anyone played Foregone? I was browsing the epic game store and came across it, and if I didn't know better I would assume it's by the Dead Cells people.

It's gimmick is that the biomes are hand crafted, but enemies drop random stuff like Diablo. It's currently in EA and 5ish hours, they're hoping to make it twice as long.

Considering jumping on it due to the 10 dollar epic coupon.

Couple pages back, but I got this today after some deliberation. And it's pretty decent so far! I only have a little playtime in but I will say... Even though the Dead Cells vibes are huge, the gameplay is very much its own thing. Combat is much slower and more deliberate than DC. There don't seem to be any shields and there's no parry mechanic. So avoiding damage seems entirely about positioning and precise dashing through attacks. I was on the fence for a while, but I think I went in with pretty heavy muscle memory from DC that was messing with my expectations.

It's definitely an EA game right now. Levels look amazing but seem unfinished. Weapon variety isn't there yet and the loot system will probably need a rework because you get a million trash drops that you're expected to haul around until you get back to base camp and trade for gold. It's pointlessly labor intensive to go through them all one by one instead of just letting you swap trash for gold as you go. Still, it's a good start and I'm happy with the purchase so far.

The only other significant thing that's bugging me so far is the voice acting. It's pretty bad. But I'm also spoiled by having hundreds of hours of time in Hades in recent months. Pretty much everything sounds bad after that. Also, the main menu art is kinda goofy. Really doesn't fit the aesthetic of the rest of the game. I mean, look at it. Yeesh.

Man, it's astounding how much better the Far Cry 5 storyline is with New Dawn. It actually gives it a chance to breath and commit to what it's doing, without kicking the player in the gut at the "end", because New Dawn lets you actually finish saving the region.

It's also really funny to be black lady Jesus slaughtering hordes of weird cultists now that they've confirmed that plotline vis a vis New Dawn. Why yes, the reincarnation of Jesus Christ is a black woman wearing a shirt that says Testy Festy on it.

This makes me almost tempted. I swore I would never buy another Far Cry game after the ending to 5 was so terrible. That kick in the gut you refer to hit me really bad; I don't typically play games to feel like poo poo. (Yeah, I know the plot is sorta cartoony and silly and all over the place anyway--we're not talking serious cinematic drama here or something, but still...I was pissed. Ah, I see. Yeah, they could just say "2 utility slots" on both the Enhanced and Mastercraft armors rather than saying "+1 utility slot" on both which sounds like it stacks.

I also loaded an older save to check and it turns out half my agents have been naked since I got Enhanced armor too, which probably caused a lot of injuries. Luckily the mod (Fix missing equipment) has fixed it, and I also found another fix mod so capturing enemies gives XP.

The game is so complicated and dense (I learned about a key upgrade function like 30 hours in) that it's better to ask as you go along. Cause unlike your standard jrpg, they do not hand-hold you as much as they should.

JRPGs are so bad at finding that middle ground. They either over explain every aspect of the game, or go “GUESS WHAT, MOTHERFUCKER? YOU’RE ON YOUR OWN!” Like how FFVIII did an awful job of explaining junctioning, or the best ways to get magic to actually junction, so tons of people got stomped by the level scaling and just gave up/got bored of grinding drawing spells from enemies and gave up.

I will never get why people had problems with it. The game explains it pretty well. Whether it's a good system is another thing, but the explanation was definitely good enough.

To me it sounds like one of those real "labor of love" games. You don't put that many different and complex systems in single a game unless you're just full of ideas that you think are really cool and that you just really want to share with people. I love that kind of poo poo and I'm looking forward to trying it out myself.

So they did a few things to fix it, from what I've seen.

Pastor Jerome now has a line talking about how you reclaiming the Prepper Stashes will be useful if things go bad.

At the end, you get a line from Jerome/Mary/Eli talking about how people need to head to their bunkers, go go go as you fight Joseph.

And then you have New Dawn.

And New Dawn also isn't like the best written thing ever, but it pulls the plot threads you want forward. Almost all the old companions are there, Nick and Kim's kid is there as a Gun For Hire, the landmarks are still there, and you get to see what happened after the events of 5 until now. And the reveal is the Rook really did save the region. Without the cult most people survived the ending, and were able to rebuild this new society in this new world. One that is also now under threat.

Considering the state of the various cult leaders, this is a significantly better ending then either of the potential endings offered by Far Cry 5 base ( those being let the Cult be awful, or let everyone die. ).

It "redeems" the end of 5 in some neat ways. Like for example more plainly stating/leaning on the fact the Rook was Jesus/the Lamb, and that you were saving your flock before Armageddon, and that Joseph was probably the Antichrist, albeit one who regrets his actions.

The updates are machine translated due to needing details to be posted right away, but the in-game stuff has some people (volunteers on Steam forums and the discord) actually working on a proper translation now.

The devs also set up a Google sheet for helping to get a proper translation going. They have also said that they want suggestions on English names for skills, especially the playable character specific ones. Doesn’t have to be 1:1 translation for them as well, just something more fitting than the machine translated stuff.

Edit: For example, Irene’s skills used to be “Red Panda Formula 1” with the machine translation and now they’re “Red Panda Style 1st Form” within the game. So there is some improvement with the in game translation.

Seconded. There's currently an LP of the game going on in Let's Play and the entire thing has visibly been reworked from the ground up. It still has some of that "this dialogue was not meant to be read in English" awkwardness to it that you sometimes get from games that were originally developed in a different language, but otherwise it's completely solid and very comprehensible now.

If you read around in New Dawn, you can find that Rook/Judge have no memory of the events of Far Cry 5. They basically last remember getting on the chopper to arrest Joseph, then their next memory is being in the bunker with Joseph.

They felt a presence though

Considering biblically the only person who is capable of lifting the Seals is the Lamb/Jesus, and the Seeds are presented as the 4 Horsemen, then yeah. Especially as you look at stuff like the 12 Guns for Hire/Disciples, and the other tieins to Revelations. Or the constant "no MORTAL MAN could do this" stuff like the stunts. Or why you were the only one who could shake off the Jacob stuff, or shake off the Bliss stuff. Most people got fully taken over by it. It's because the whole game is a Revelations allegory and the PC is a standin for the Reincarnation.

Which I view as hilarious because my PC was a black woman wearing a Testy Festy shirt.
