Always see everything.
Did a quick test RE: sell prices.

Truck price: 12300.
Upgrade price: 4700.

Sales price truck with upgrade: 15500.
Sales price of the original part: 1500.

Seems like you get all your money back. You have to sell the original part individually though. If the part is only viable for the current truck and you don't sell it before getting rid of the truck it shows up in your inventory again if you buy another of those trucks.

This game teaches perseverance like no other

Spending 10-15 minutes when hopelessly bogged literally trying every different forward/reverse/steering angle/winch point has got me out of potential rage-quit situations at the last possible minute so many times (like that huge mission where you roll it or get stuck within sight of your goal)

Echoing comments about the Fleetstar, it’s a champ. The DLC Jeep, especially when fitted with the bigger engine is near unstoppable in mud but can be so so cruel when you roll it for the 50th time at a crucial point....

The one thing i would do if i started again was open up the maps to Alaska as a priority, as only then did the game let me fix all the roadblocks everywhere that would have saved a ton of time and difficulty early on with the various tasks.

Also some nice little mods coming out like the fix for proper 10-speed transmissions in the trucks.

I wish they would do something about the engine sounds though, they don’t seem to correlate to what the truck is actually doing....

So much this. I've now rolled my Paystar (with crane - makes it so topheavy) 3 times trying to get some gas barrels to a fisherman who lived way the gently caress out in the sticks. Normally I would have uninstalled a game by now, but not for this. I MUST get that man his gas.

My son and I just started playing Mudrunner (game pass) and loved it. Got sucked into playing for 3 hours, hauling logs around The Bog, rescuing trucks from bad decisions and generally surprised at how much fun a game like this could offer.

As someone new to the franchise should we immediately make the jump to Snowrunner? It seems like it has more variety and looks prettier.

I couldn't get sucked into Mudrunner but Snowrunner has just enough direction to keep me focused and engaged for something like 80 hours already. So, yes.

MudRunner is basically the original Spintires, apparently *some poo poo went down* between the guys who wrote the original game which is why it was basically released twice. There's a lot of really great content in there, and SnowRunner is basically just a logical next step with some (some) polish.

Someone on Reddit actually plotted out the transmission curve of the Tayga using the in-game tachnometer. The engine actually is doing what it sounds like, which is uhh... not what an engine actually does (he accidentally x10'd the RPM numbers).

Yeah if you watch the tacho it looks like theyve somehow reversed it or the engine revs calculation, it goes lower the faster you go

One thing I did realize about getting money back for upgrades: you do get back "all" your money and keep unused stuff in your inventory, but if you keep stuff that can only be used on the truck you're selling, then you'll have no way to sell it from your inventory without re-buying the truck. Probably more of an issue with cosmetic stuff and certain tire sizes.

^^ yeah, in most games when you drive with a controller it dampens your input for corrections because there's so little travel on a controller joystick that you're always going to overcorrect, whereas with a wheel that kind of overcorrection is generally not even physically possible. The original project cars was pretty much unplayable for the same reason, no idea if they fixed it in the second one.

I was more commenting on the bizarre mismatch between console and PC. I'm using a controller on both and it's fine on PC. It "reacts" like most other driving games, with FH4 being the most recent example. They still handle like a truck, but the steering makes sense and you can drive pretty well with it. On console, it's very different, as is camera. Same controller and settings for both. It's really frustrating on console, and I'm on that more than PC since my wife only has it on console and it's more fun to play together.

Kinda tempted to try my simucube 2 on 100% force feedback briefly and see if I immediately break my wrists.

:shittydog::shittydog::shittydog:
Love this game it feels so much more "finished" than spintires / mudrunner. The overhaul of the crane and cargo stuff is so good too. That said some of the bugs are annoying even in singleplayer, they seem to have done something in an update that means trailers often lose their collisions especially when changing trucks. So it can be very hard to load a truck with another truck's crane. It also seems impossible to load a truck onto a trailer now despite this being in the promo material for the game. Wish they would fix that as it would be cool to truck one of the stupid huge trucks to the bad area on a highway truck with the gooseneck trailer.

Haven't seen these tips mentioned here so:
  • You can tap the "clutch" button (that you hold to change gears) to make the auto gearbox change immediately to an "appropriate" gear (useful to spam it when taking off).
  • Consider winching trucks / extra trailers behind you so you only have to make a drive once. It does slow you down though and you have to be quite careful when doing it that you don't put the towed truck off the road, more so than in spintires.
  • I think this was mentioned but you can sell trailers for extra cash at the trailer shop as long as it is hooked up to your truck
  • Use that tyre chart in the op, the most expensive ones aren't necessarily better. Bigger tyres are always better though (with the exception of the hummer which has special hummer tyres that only come in the smaller size).
  • Get the autonomous winch for your scouts as soon as you can, its just worth it.

How do you complete a geological survey? I've found the right spot, park close enough that the distance meter goes away and the machinery starts beeping aggresively, and then what? I don't see any way of actually activating it in the action menu.

You have to hit the "up" menu or whatever, just like when you have a crane attached it gives you an option to hit X (on an Xbox controller) to do the seismic scan. I couldn't figure it out either, the UI/UX really needs some work in this game.

Hello fellow virtu-truckfucklers. I got the White Star and it really is the beast everyone says it is. I was super disappointed with the royal bm17; its so intensely bouncy and just flips every chance it gets. The White Star has a sort of twist between the cab and the rear that lets it navigate some of the less straight roads really easily. Gave it that loaded dice skin and it looks rad as hell.

Now when I'm driving around in off line world I see big ol' trucks and nod appreciatively, "ayyyup, thats a good lookin truck right there" I often find myself saying.

I've been playing this game incessantly for 2 weeks now. It's very good, but I have a few gripes that might actually help people who are starting or having issues:

---

Despite being "Open World", there is a fairly tight path the game seemingly wants you to take to progress. Often times, you don't have access to the good tires early game which basically prevents you from accessing certain areas. Stubbornness in this is generally met with massive frustration and wasting time.

In addition to that, some missions can be chained together if you do them in the 'correct' order. None of this is ever really revealed to you and it wasn't obvious to me early on.

The game DOES NOT want you to 100% every map before moving on. In fact, I'd recommend moving on as soon as possible. When you start hitting the wall and struggling with missions, it's past time.

Do NOT get attached to vehicles. You get your money back 100% from selling (minus some parts that get stocked for other vehicles, which you have to sell individually). I got really into the Fleetstar and BM17 early on and neglected to upgrade to the Russian vehicles when I got there - that was a mistake. The raised trucks that dominated in Alaska roll over so easily in Russia, switching to the Azov and Kolob was a game changer.

PLAN YOUR ROUTES when you're doing the big oil rig hauling missions. Someone went to a LOT of trouble putting teeny little switchbacks on otherwise straight roads that happen to JUST BARELY allow you you squeeze a truck and trailer through them. One of the final missions in Alaska has a fairly simple-looking Zone->Zone haul, but is considerably easier adding in a jaunt to a 3rd zone, for example.

The long way is usually the right way. Shortcuts are the Devil's Playground.

The auto-targetting for the winch is horrible and I hate it and OF COURSE SURE YEAH I DEFINITELY WANT TO ATTACH TO THAT 2FT TALL PINE TREE AND NOT THE TELEPHONE POLE RIGHT NEXT TO IT GREAT THANKS.

Is there a way to disable auto reverse in Snowrunner? In Mudrunner I mostly use 1 and 1+ shifting manually to R when needed, having to brake with the accelerator messes with my brain so I've never been a fan of auto reverse.

I've stopped using normal brake unless it's trimming speed while going medium fast. Parking brake is more reliable at low and fast speeds. I can't believe the game made me type that out but well what is a truck video game for if not for doing parking brake turns with trucks.

E. blame the fast speed reason on the brake forces being hosed up from front to back. Front locks up at the slightest glance at the brake. Better to just lock the back wheels ahead of time if you want to slow down from free rolling down a big hill.

Slamming it in reverse, mashing the throttle, and burying the brake pedal works better at keeping the truck straight than using the service brakes alone.

Another small tip for new players: notice how the trans only shifts after you let off the clutch? Use that to stage the next gear you want. Clutch in, shift, watch the truck, and release the clutch when appropriate. You can even rock the truck back and forth going from R to L this way, trying to do that in Auto makes you stop completely before it will shift.

Made it to level 27 before finding a good group of coop players, now I'm at lvl30 acting as dispatch and recovery specialist. Good times, hit up coop as early as possible.

There needs to be a "lock trailer steering" button because it's all but impossible to back those things up unless you jackknife that steerable thing into itself and sort of shove the trailer sideways.

How would you even do that in real life? Do they have a steering lock for backing them up? I'd think they have to because even trying to account for that with your own steering they have a tendency to auto-jackknife themselves even if on a flat surface and backing up completely straight.

Fake Edit: Guessing in real life you just don't ever back those up really

You can back then up in real life but it's easier for a few reasons. The integral steering with a keyboard/controller stick instead of an absolute steering wheel means it's mostly impossible in game. You can do it in Snowrunner but you have to do it very carefully - very small steering inputs are enough to overshoot and break the tongue in the opposite direction you want in a way you need to pull forward a bit to fix.

In the sim thread I mentioned it seemed like weight on the front axle seemed to help like it does in real life but I'm not so sure anymore. In real life you might lock the front axle with a pin when the trailer is empty because they are designed to turn correctly when loaded. When it's loaded they turn fine and predictably and truck fuckling wizards can do it with a mental map of the tongue angle compared to the trailer angle they see in their mirrors. Little easier if you're in like a tractor or airport mule because you can look out the window and at the axle and tell where you're at and know what to do next to get it where you want it to go.

big nipples big life
May 12, 2014

I am thoroughly addicted to this game now. One thing I really wish for (besides a checkbox to turn off auto reverse) is the ability to learn out the window and look at your front tire like you can do at the back. I can obviously just go to 3rd person view but it would be cool for first person driving.
