An early SST Records compilation I heard in high school was my intro to a few of my all time favorite punk bands.

Meat Puppets first record. Such an interesting band where every album is different but this first one has this crazy, balls-out energy that I love.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usWKsOLn9Zc

Saccharine Trust. Underrated band with a really unique take on punk/hardcore. I saw them doing this album in its entirety, with the original lineup a couple years ago at a bar in San Pedro. Amazing show.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ta2n6tBkuhU

Speaking of San Pedro I also highly recommend anything the Minutemen ever did.

The Dead Kennedys lost tapes are fun to watch:

https://youtu.be/mUB6aexYwzs

I don’t know if Atom and his Package is punk but it’s fun music:
https://youtu.be/T7zFFmk80w4

In college I had a punk radio show. Back then we just had 2 of each of the following:
Cassette tape decks
Single CD players
Record players, only one of which worked at any given time
8 tracks

This made it tough to queue stuff up, especially since the stuff I played was usually 2 minutes max. And the station didn’t have a bathroom - I had to lock up and go around to the main building entrance.
My playlist included Agent Orange, descendents, naked raygun, chemical people, agnostic front, sick of it all, germs, DI, adolescents, fear, cramps, exploited, bad brains, minor threat, and others already mentioned. There was also a band called Therapy? that I don’t think is really punk but I liked it and it didn’t have a lot of swears I had to censor. There was like one gg allin song I played too.

I saw him play a while back with some goons and remember some lady (promoter, photographer, idk) pulled me and other goon to the front because we looked like we were having more fun than anyone else. Then later I went to get a cd signed and some dork was rambling on while Adam tried to politely get him to shut up. Should’ve just given him a bloody lip, and maybe a black loving eye for good measure.

There used to be a video on youtube of Screeching Weasel playing "I Wanna Be Naked," way back in the day. In this video, there was a naked guy beating off in the crowd the entire time. I'm not sure who uploaded it or when it got deleted.

Anyway, here's a great live performance by one of the best punk bands to ever exist. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iw5YoCjblPo

Nonetheless, the Jabbers album lacks the profound intellectual message of GG's later solo songs like "Cock on the Loose," "Hard Candy Cock," "Needle Up My Cock, Can't Get hosed," or "Drink From the Pissing Snake's Mouth."

It's really a shame that he didn't live long enough to do a concept album of songs about German idioms. I really want to hear what "Pissing into the Asses of the Asspissers" sounds like.

Yeah! Great song. Nearly everything he did with the Jabbers is good, so honestly, I think it's just that the Jabbers are good. There's stuff that leans more towards power pop/new wave, and other songs that are straight up punk, and all of it is great.

Cheri Love Affair I always liked, with all the little hooks and the female backup singers:

I know 12XU because it was covered by Minor Threat, good song.

Speaking of Minor Threat, I think their discography CD (a whopping 40 minutes) was my favorite CD, back when people listened to CDs. For the longest time I didn't 'get' American hardcore. To me punk was combats, mohawks, and leather jackets, you know, 1977. I thought these American kids were lame, singing about the power of friendship and how drinking is bad, with bleached hair and wearing shorts. Then I happened to pick up said Minor Threat CD on a whim when I was in college (I already knew a couple of songs but no more than that), and it started clicking after a few listens. At first listen it just sounds like the musical equivalent of monkeys furiously throwing poo poo at the wall (you might say screaming at a wall :D), but actually almost every single song of theirs has an interesting idea or hook, evokes something unique. It really resonated with me. I realized I was much more similar to these angsty middle-class suburban kids than to working-class British punks and skinheads in Dr. Martens.

I still roll my eyes when straight edge bands take it too far with the preachiness, but I've come to realize that so much good music has come from that early eighties hardcore scene.

I saw the Go-Go's at the Milwaukee Summerfest in 1984. I was 7 years old, so I don't remember too many details. Unrelated, but I also saw Yakov Smirnoff at the Summerfest, although it might have been a different time. And I would have seen Run DMC and the Beastie Boys circa 1986 or 1987, but they didn't bother to show up. Me and my sister were very disappointed.

I think the first club show I chose to go to was Skankin' Pickle and the Fabulous Hedgehogs at the Omni or One Step Beyond in Oakland in 1992 when I was 15. (Both of those clubs have since closed down.) The first really crazy punk club show was probably DRI at the Berkeley Square (RIP) in 1994. I am old.

Speaking of the Go-Go's, I love Charlotte Caffey's pre-Go-Go's band, The Eyes:

One of my greatest regrets in life was not going to see Wesley Willis in Portland back in 2001 or 2002 even though the club was right near my apartment. He died in 2003. I also regret skipping a Nuclear Assault reunion show at the same club.

I won free tickets to the Vans Warped Tour in 2011, and went just to see Fear (although without the classic line-up with Philo and Spit Stix), but it turned out they weren't playing any northern California shows. Green Jello was also playing that day, but I didn't know that because the Warped Tour is stupid and there was no posted schedule and I loving missed it, which made me very sad. I saw a band called Foxy Shazam, and they loving ruled. They played their asses off for, like, 4 people. I saw them again at the Filmore in SF a couple of years later. Not my style of music really, but fantastic performers.

I was lucky enough to see one of the Dead Milkmen reunions at Slim's in SF back in 2013. It was great, although the opening band blasted a feedback loop that left me deaf for two or three days.
