My G1W is around six years I think, being outside in Ohio winters for its first three. The battery died in the first year, but it did still work when I needed it the other day. That said, it was kind of luck so I'm definitely shopping around again.

I’ve owned two Dod Tech cameras, and have been pleased with them. The models were LS460W (I think) and LS470W+ (currently installed in my Mustang). They’re not cheap, but record at 1080p and have excellent night capability.

Here, this happened the other day. I'm always amazed when one car will double park next to another car already double parked, but the Lexus making the u-turn and blocking everyone in was next level.

https://imgur.com/a/MNEfHnN

This also happened today. A guy decided to make a u-turn directly into me. :sigh: No video. I had been putting off installing a camera in my personal car, but I guess I will now.

He was in the right lane, I was in the left lane (both going north). Not sure what he was expecting.

He had backed up some by the time I took that picture.

His car

My car

Sucks. That's my first actual crash. Previously I had just been rear ended while at a stop by someone not paying attention going less than 5mph. I'm pretty sure he was circling for parking, because I saw him 5 minutes later in the exact same spot. v:shobon:v

Mine did that too (edit: just the focus part). They sent me a replacement. That replacement is now stuck on the boot logo though.

They're asking me to send in my camera for service (at my shipping cost.) Lol, should have complained publicly on DashCamTalk, they seem to just instantly send out a replacement in those threads. StreetGuardian costs roughly double the equivalent other cameras, I was expecting to not have to use their acclaimed customer service.

Installing my A129 I realiz how many of the guides online that just blindly push the wires behing the A-pillar trim thus obstructing the airbag curtain. I removed mine and fed the wire behing the airbag.
A bit of an ":ohdear: moment" IMO...

Now I just need to find a way to cleanly route the last bit of the rear camera to the hatch.

That's extremely generous by Dallas highway standards. I'd expect there to be no turn signal and a solid one finger salute after honking in most cases.

Also, I really wish I could get the footage off of the dash cams on my trains. I nearly smacked a moron at 35ish mph who was stopped plainly clear of a railroad crossing BEHIND them, with the crossing at the bottom of a hill in the tracks. When I started blowing the whistle like normal, they started very slowly backing up into the crossing as I'm laying on the horn and begging the laws of physics to break just this once. At the last second, they pulled forward.

I need to start carrying eggs to throw at these people.

It's not the asserting your right of way - I'd do that too - it's the going out of your way to scream "gently caress you". I mean, you're even posting "gently caress (him)".

To be clear, he's wrong as hell, and I'd thoroughly enjoy scaring him into stopping as you did. But I'd do it with a smile, I'd maybe post the video, and I'd definitely have calmed down about it long before now.

Are you planning on trying to swap cameras between your car and your bike helmet? If so, that's going to be more trouble than it's worth. You want something you can mount and forget, which means hard-wiring. Otherwise you're going to forget to charge the battery or move it from your helmet to your car or vice versa, and that'll invariably be the time you need to record something.

In that case, i'd like to get a car dedicated cam. $50 would be nice. I dont need features, just something that has good night performance, and good resolution for showing license plates. It doesn't even need to have a screen. If thats not possible at that price range then something under $100.

I got this a few months ago and it's working well:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DLG9GFG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You can hardwire it to your ODBII port with this:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07V3BLNZ2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You're going to have difficulty finding something that can read license plates. The sensors just aren't large enough for that kind of detail unless conditions are near perfect, even at 2k or more. As others have suggested in this thread, if you need to record a license plate, read it off audibly for the dash cam. And if it's a situation where you can't read it then there's no way your camera will.

I use my GoPro when I'm on my bike for pretty much that reason. Its disadvantages as a dash cam don't really apply to bike use, it's built to take the elements, and there are options for basically every kind of mounting you could possibly want.

Same. My first car was an ‘85 caprice, and steel bumpers are superior, particularly while you’re learning where the corners of the car are.

He blew past the post office so my best guess is he was cutting through to get back to 635 using what may be the worst possible ramp to the feeder. The road cuts to the right just before it reaches it so you have to twist your neck way back to check for oncoming cars, and since there's an exit ramp RIGHT THERE everybody's still going 60mph minimum. It's a loving horrible unprotected turn and I'd sooner drive 5 blocks away to an intersection with a light than go through there.
