The Rifftrax channel on Twitch is showing Oblivion. There's the germ of a good Weird West story in there.

BUT

It's undermined by a puerile script and mailed in performances from the bigger names and just bad acting from the rest.

Also, it's too campy to really be weird and too weird to actually be camp.

Edit: huh, it's written by Peter David. I would have expected the writing to be better.

That one's quite something. George Takei is amazing(ly bad) in it. Of special note is the evil henchwoman who I was a little startled to find plays one of the sirens in O Brother, Where Are Thou?

There is a sequel and its even worse. Ive no evidence but I assumed the whole thing was an attempt to get a tv show like star trek going which is why the wide cast of "good" characters but its so bad and cant maintain tone and the lead hero is just unengaging conceptually.

Like many films, there was an idea that could have worked in other hands.

Space Mutiny is at least a good concept that turns into hot trash once someone decided the use a vague warehouse as a spaceship. But a mutiny on a generation ship isn't a bad idea for a movie.

Overdrawn is in the class of MST3K movies that is shooting for something way above it's pay grade and there's something respectable about that.

Its biggest problem really stems from budget. Get decent sets and costuming and a stronger director and there's a decent movie in there.

Did you ever wonder where the Romans got bread from? It wasn't from Waitrose!
We watched the cinema version of Clonus: the Parts Horror last night; it's the first time I've ever seen the entire film. Aside from now being traumatised for life at the extended sex scene between lumpy Richard and the gal who lost her nose in the angle-grinder accident, there are a couple of scenes that actually add some proper punch to the film: genuinely creepy moments when Richard, whilst escaping Clonus, discovered the freezer room, and the scenes of Lena being tortured and lobotomised are pretty disturbing as well

Really enjoying these restored (as it were) versions of the MSTie'd films; the plot to Clonus makes a hell of a lot more sense now, aside from Grandma Wynn. She's still improvising as terribly as ever.

There's a full version of Final Sacrifice and Time Chasers on the same channel ;-*
