All of NYC is like that. No other city makes patting itself on the back for being "the best city" as central to its municipal identity as New York does. It's madness.

Chicago is like that a little, but not as much as NYC.

I kind of wonder how much the super prevalence of New Yorkers in the online cultural scene distorts the politics of the online who do not live in the city

Like how many people think there's a much wider net of leftist politics in the general public because of what they see on Twitter and constant exposure to the New York sphere from podcasts like this one

I was in Chicago for about 3 months 4 years ago and a ton of people asked me about what people thought of Chicago. I’m from CA, so we don’t. NYC, Seattle, California navel gazing, and Austin (not the rest of Texas, mostly). Heartbreaking. Chicago wasn’t a bad place to visit and they have good beer, but it’s not for me for living there.

I have seen Black Israelites do their speech in San Francisco, at the Powell St. cable car turnaround, to all the tourists waiting in line. They aren’t unique to NYC.

I've never seen one in my life. But I've also never been to either of those cities. They're not unique but they're hardly universal.

There is a lot of this sort of thing. I remember when that lady claimed she had singlehandedly caused Chapo to start losing listeners and used Graphtreon to show how they were dipping (starting at the same time as Bernie loss/Corona lol).

Now, that was a particularly egregious case of an inflated sense of self-importance. What I did find interesting looking at the site was that Contrapoints remains the fifth biggest video creator on Patreon, and that her Patreon at best had a period where growth tapered off a bit, but her numbers never went down and are back to a healthy growth now. Her Twitter and YouTube numbers are also shown as being consistently good. This was surprising because I had kept hearing about how she was being canceled by the trans and/or woke/idpol community, while also hearing people claim that she was losing her audience due to pivoting from babbys first socialism to more idpol oriented content.

The numbers don't seem to bear it out, yet when I asked some people I knew had been following that controversy they were convinced it had cost her dearly. Like, as in most of her audience. Even the terminally online go more or less untouched by terminally online drama. There's a lot of poo poo that don't matter except to oneself.

i think at worst people might overestimate how big the pocket of leftism in their own city is, especially if they weren't already involved in some sort of organizing

God I hope not. The book was a funny troll by giving them a #1 NYT list to brag about but it wasn't good, they should just.continue to be good podcasters rather than McElroying it up and creating a mediocre multimedia empire.

The book was fine, but I imagine regular listeners felt like they had heard things that they were reading. The documentary thing was also fine, nothing remarkable. I imagine Amber's book will be good.

Ok I listened to 5 minutes of CHD and it’s just the audio version of Twitter, super pass from me lol. I would never listen to a full episode but I can think of a few of my exes who have probably heard every episode.

Three podcasts by women I do enjoy:

The Bechdel Cast is a discussion and critique of film through a feminist lens. I am kinda bored by Jamie Loftus these days but Caitlin Durante is always FIRE! Learned a ton about movies and female voices in media, 5/5 stars

Dumb Bitch Media is a show by two Canadian comediennes and it’s just two friends being silly and talking about their partners and day jobs and what being a stand up in Canada is like. Most eps are like 3/5 and I skip it sometimes.

https://twitter.com/creaturefeatpod/status/1263210951660077056?s=21

Creature Feature is a podcast by Katie Goldin about the animal kingdom and how weird and cute it is and it’s a great breath of fresh air if you need a break from politics and adult themes. A solid 4/5 from me!

I am in my car 3-4 hours a day for work so podcasts are a huge part of my routine, and I feel like making sure I get lots of different female perspectives helps me to be a better ally to ladies in my life, so I endeavor to find female identifying voices so I’m not just constantly recycling old Cum Town bits and Cody Johnston news bites.

If many of you have been following TSM, you would know that the oddone is having some health conditions.

It started more than 3 weeks ago and a few days before IEM World Championship.(We could use that as an excuse for his poor performance but we will not).

Due to the saline / cold weather in Lindenhurst NY and the fact that Oddone does not take care of himself,

he ran into a skin condition where his whole body was peeling off like a snake.

At IEM oddone had feverish like symptoms where his skin was peeling all over his body. If he moves his skin would stretch and break. (Ouch)

He would feel very cold and when he would shower, the pain was unbearable.

--After IEM and for quite a few days TheOddone laid on his bed as though he was about to die. Other TSM members were seriously worried about him.

When I saw him for the first time, I was scared for his life.

He had looked like a Guinea Pig drench from the cold unforgiving rain.

Oddone was lifeless.

So for the past couple of weeks, after taking better care of himself and getting treatment from the doctor. His condition is improving, let hope he gets better for IPL.

Right now he is banned from soda, junk food, microwave food and anything that he was regularly having.

The oddone of old did not believe in drinking water. All he had was Arizona Ice Tea, Soda and Microwave dinner. (I guess he did not see Super Size by Michael Moore.)

Anyhow, right now he's eating healthy food. I am making him eat some fresh fruits every day.

We will see where he goes from
