I have no doubt that I wouldn't like the potter prequels, but then I stopped liking the books towards the end and never watched the last three movies.

Imagine if Luke beat the Emperor because Palpatine had taken out a mortgage on the Death Star and Uncle Owen had been on the board of directors of the bank that owned the mortgage and the Emperor had been relying on revenue from Jabba, so he had actually missed the last few payments, so halfway through Luke's final confrontation, he realized that he could just repossess the Death Star and evict the emperor into space.

And then Nien Nunb just kinda beats Darth Vader to death with his bare hands, but that's not the important story.

General Grievous is kind of a wasted opportunity, not particularly because other sources had cooler takes on the character concept than the movie did, but because he doesn't really have any purpose in the movie other than distracting Obi-Wan while Anakin's busy falling to the dark side. He's the Zam Wessel of the movie.

Also it was weird that there was a whole thing where Utapau was being held hostage somehow? Weird that he had to do that whole thing instead of just going to a plain ol' Separatist planet. That whole sequence was just kinda overly long for something that carried no emotional weight in the movie.

It's not just that other sources had better takes, you need to watch the other sources to even have somewhat of an idea of who he is. Why does he cough? You needed to have watched the Tartakovsky clone wars series that originally aired in 3 minute episodes on Cartoon Network on Friday nights. Even then I just watched that and have seen the CGI clone wars series but I'm still not sure where he came from, why he's in a robot body, why he's a general or why he hates jedi. I think some of that might be answered in that series but it's 7 seasons most of which are 20+ episodes.

I just watched the prequels after watching Rise of Skywalker because I wanted to see how they hold up and I think it's pretty funny how twice he's like "haha I win!" as he flees for his life. I still don't think the prequels are very good but I will admit I have more of an affection for them now after watching the newest ones.

my favourite character in the prequels is the dumb alien in charge of the cloning facility

some random dude shows up "oh you must be the guy who ordered a billion clones, I never really saw the guys face"

Obi Wan: (sweating profusely) "Clone army?! A clone army, a whole army of clones?!"

"yeah this dude ordered it"

"They've been dead for ten years! A loving clone army jesus christ"

"oh word? Yeah. Maybe in the decade we've been making a billion clones we should have sent an email, or talked to more than one dude? Project is still on right? lol sure hoope we got paid up front. Anyway, are you saying you don't know about the clone army???"

(Most obvious lie anyone has ever told) "no I know about it, HAHA, show me my clone army what I ordered haha"

"oh ok"

lol you mean the writers of a kids show also realised how dumb that scene was

Does the cartoon explain why the trillion dollar clone project that is highly important and sensitive is carried out 10 feet above a raging, stormy, ocean??? Do they just open up the floors and dump the bad clones?

They're subsistence farmers scratching out a living on the frontier, contrasted with the sleek, modern styling of the ultratech Kamino cloners. This is a dumb comparison.

That said, I just assumed the Kaminoans lived underwater and the stuff above the surface was a dock and reception.

They don't export the water off of Tatooine. They're doing it so they don't have to import water from offplanet.

If that doesn't sound like a profitable business model that would make homesteaders relevant within the galactic economy as opposed to just some nobodies out on the frontier, it's not.

also kamino is :krad: and easily one of the best-looking planets in the whole series, which is impressive in a series with coruscant, mustafar, naboo, cloud city, tatooine, the death star, and none of the locations from the sequel trilogy

e:actually, let's offer a bit more substantive criticism. the casino on casino planet looks nice but casino planet itself is remarkably bland. krait is decent but feels like a marginal improvement on hoth, except there are pokemon as well. exogol is just the phrase 'it was a dark and stormy night'.

A ton of that show is explaining stuff that doesn't make much sense in the movies, like almost everything about Anakin. The good parts are pretty good, but like I said above it's 7+ seasons, five of which are over 20 episodes so there's also a fair amount of other stuff in there that's not that great. Then there's stuff that's so dumb it's good, like Savage Opress. Just look at that glorious villian name. It's been awhile but at some point, I want to say like season 3 or so it goes from being for kids to, uh, not really being for them, or at least they aren't the target audience anymore. It gets pretty violent and there's stuff like a plotline about a jedi who purposely throws clones lives away because he doesn't view them as really being people.

Wait why do you need to know why the cyborg naga has a cough

Perhaps he is unhealthy

Why does artoo not have a proper voice box? Why is Vader's breathing so prominent? Why does Chewie hate losing holo chess so much? Why why

No doubt there are answers for these inane questions in some bad comic/novel/game/etc but it's best to look within and trust your own feelings.

Grievous rules in both interpretations. Genndy Tartakovsky's interpretation made him a mysterious badass. George Lucas' interpretation made him a scenery-chewing Snidely Whiplash, and good meme fodder. I 100% understand people hating on Lucas' version after seeing the microseries, but Grievous grew on me the more I saw it.
