We already got a Hernandez doc. I'd take a Gronk doc or belichick or randy moss or wilfork before Brady.

I saw Tony Reali from Around the Horn mention this, but I think the sports figure that would work best as the subject of a long documentary series would be Vince McMahon

He's maybe the only person where I would ask the question "Man, would 10 hours even be enough to cover everything?". Plus WWE is a rare thing where it's got a solid cultural presence but the average ESPN viewer wouldn't already come in with a knowledge of most of the details. Lure em in with the Attitude Era, keep em around for decades of cartoonish megalomania and corporate malfeasance

I guess getting enough people to go on the record while he's still alive might be tricky though

Even after he dies, I'd bet his kids would legally go after any doc that dared paint him in an unflattering light. The thing about Vince is that a lot of the grimmest stuff, like the rape allegation, the pedo ring operating under his nose, etc is heresy and conjecture and WWE's legal counsel is aggressive as gently caress.

Yeah whitewashing Jordan is one thing because even if he's a delusional prick he's ultimately pretty harmless. Vince can be credibly accused of rape, covering up child sexual abuse, covering up a murder, running a steroid ring out of his locker room, and directly contributing to the death of employees, among other things. It would be so much worse to get a hagiography of him and that's almost certainly the only thing they'd be allowed to do (or even attempt to do since it seems like the two companies are pretty chummy)

I doubt we'll see anything on Vince until after he dies. Very few people would be willing to speak up about stuff until then, but afterwards I think they'll feel more able to do so.

The Tom Brady thing seems pretty obviously a "We need a White Person One" response to last dance, which made me think what sports-related white guy would be worth the treatment and this is exactly the right answer.

Watching you sleep.

Butt first, let's
check the feeds.

Yeah, even after Vince dies any biographies of any kind about him are going to be a mix of white washed nonsense given rights and footage and cooperation by his family or absolutely brutal stuff that WWE sues to hell and bars anyone in the industry from getting involved in.

Like there's a whole series of wrestling documentaries and they treat WWE as gingerly as possible most of the time because there's only so many people in the industry willing to burn those bridges. Its like trying to do a "Why the NFL is evil" documentary and then trying to get NFL players, coaches, execs, and journalists involved.

There has been: Sex, Lies, and Headlocks: The Real Story of Vince McMahon and World Wrestling Entertainment. Shaun Assael co-authored it.

I haven't read it since it came out in 2004, but the page count is pretty short. It's not exhaustive by any stretch. I do remember stories of McMahon's childhood and how he worshiped the wrestling Graham brothers as a teen.

The official account of NFL Tackle Phil Loadholt.

Let's talk Football.
I know hockey isn’t the most popular but I would love a huge doc series on Jaromir Jagr. One of the greatest to play the game. Massively long career. Born under communist Czechoslovakia. Had a stint in the KHL. Famously had insane work out regimes. And he seems like he has a genuinely good sense of humor. He’s still playing for his hometown team too. Also he had some gambling issues as well.

That Woods/Mickelson/Manning/Brady charity match did massive numbers

quote:

The Turner Sports live broadcast also delivered tremendous television ratings, averaging 5.8 million viewers across TNT, TBS, TruTV, and HLN. That makes it the most-watched golf event in cable television history, topping the first round of the 2010 Masters on ESPN (4.9 million viewers). The event — which had a delayed start due to rain — peaked with an average of 6.3 million viewers from 5:45 to 6 p.m. ET.
