The Penguins were in a freefall and might well have not made the playoffs or just barely made them had the season been finished, it's not really a complete story to say the 24-team seedings screwed them.

They were on a downswing, yeah, but the pens were still in by 6 points and the first team out islanders were on like an 8 game losing streak. THey were making the playoffs.

Stars were going nova in preparation to miss out. A bye for this team is hilarious. What's that, we're guaranteed to play the blues in the second round? Super.

None if it matters because the season was already beyond ruined. So i'll just treated it as sports ball, enjoy whatever games, be an rear end in a top hat if my teams win, and claim its rigged if they don't.

If they actually play some of these early games are going to be ridiculously high scoring. Goalies havent seen pucks in months..

So is the draft lottery just the other 7 teams? That's so unfair to Montreal and Chicago!

I think at the end of the day a lot of it comes down to the fact that the players want to play. Like, the young, fit guys with a team of doctors and trainers at their disposal probably aren't as worried about safety as the general public, and even that seems like a low bar sometimes. Personally, I wonder what the guys who won't be playing are thinking. They are part of the PA so they'll get a vote, but I have no idea what their incentives are. Would the random bottom 6 winger on the Red Wings who presumably had an awful season prefer that the season get cancelled and sort of "not count"? Or does he want the playoffs to go ahead so he can watch on TV? Or is there some other angle I'm not considering when it comes to those guys?

Puck Soup brought up an interesting wrinkle about the definition of these play in games and whether or not they'll be considered regular season or playoffs and what that would mean for contract stipulations and awards.

i think they should just cancel it because if it continues then carter hart will end up getting the roni and die which would be the most flyers thing to ever possibly happen that said i also lust for a playoff flyers-pens series and the subsequent playoff posting that will occur

So who would be the most embarrassing winner of the Asterisk Cup? One of the Canadian teams? A team that hasn't won in 20+ years/ever? a 9+ seed that wouldn't have made the playoffs normally? All of the above?
