If I could ever get a good vanguard piece rather than the many mediocre ones I have, I think it'd be a natural fit for my DZ true patriot setup.

5s of shield invulnerability is extremely, extremely strong especially in a pvp gank squad, but also when dealing with nameds. You can take the amount of damage that a tier 6 shield should take with a tier 1 shield during those 5 secs if you time it well. And it has a 20 secs cooldown i think? So it's like 15 secs to every 60 seconds and you can proc it on demand, so it really becomes a part of your gameplay.

you'll get at least a level or two's worth passively just running the missions for time trials and then who cares you already have over 31 points for the week and thus don't have to bother

for example I have all the mission time trials (this time around the clock is reasonably generous for all of them) and two whole levels of headshots, 0 skill kills. I'm set until next week :v:

ongoing directive with spark, wicked, merciless and something like that was super fun at level 30, but does it work at level 40? I want to make people bleed and shoot baddies with special bullets

Kibayasu
Mar 28, 2010

Spark now actually only triggers on skill damage and exotic weapons no longer have holstered bonuses so you actually have to shoot things with Merciless if you want to use it.

OG still works but it has a couple problems, one of them quite large. The smaller problem is like all gear sets you give up a minor attribute on all pieces. The larger problem is that OG masks, chests, and backpacks have utility mod slots for some reason so unless you get some really good natural rolls that’s basically a do-nothing bonus.

I guess the idea is you’re supposed to combine OG with skills which cause Bleed but no one wants to do that because you can keep bleed going with just the ammo bonus all day.

I think you're reading that wrong - they changed it where the free pickup is now in the gearset by default, and instead of the pickup backpack talent it has:
“Trauma Specialist”
Increases the duration of your bleed status effects by 50% and all bleed damage done by 100%
Increased 3-piece Reload Speed bonus from +20% to +30%

Sounds like a buff overall for the set, which is good because my OD build doesn't feel particularly viable. Excited to try this out. The build is squishy enough that running around gathering special ammo wasn't exactly viable without dying all the time

Eclipse Protocol set sounds awesome for status effect builds. I basically have that same general effect using Creeping Death on my fire build right now.

Shouldn't be surprised that they're removing Pesti DoT proccing white buff on TP but I'm sure the TP/Pesti crowd will be pissed. I run that build in PvE and I'm not super grumpy about it but I'm sure people will scream bloody murder. It's not a huge part of the build since White buff got lowered last patch anyhow.

Changes to Aces, Striker's and System Corruption all look to make them more viable too.

Looks like some pretty big buffs to weapon damage across the board also for a lot of the weapons that aren't currently used.

Also they fixed creeping death going on CD when there is nobody to creep to which bugged the poo poo out of me on my status effect builds.

Fun times!

Go to normal, switch to a M1A Classic/Baker's Dozen, use Crusader Shield and just walk around the map one-shotting True Sons.

I like the patch notes but I still feel like the gear sets are a bit underwhelming. Since you only get two talents from defensive gear they need to be really loving good and stuff like Focus/Glass Cannon are just way too straightforwardly useful compared to the cool but conditional stuff. And that's before you get into some of them requiring the chest/backpack set talent upgrades to be legit good.

I walk out and shoot people in the face and do more damage will always be better than "Okay if you do the chicken dance emote and are within 15m of another player you get a 850% damage boost against enemies that aren't targeting you".

There's room for both in the game for people who are okay with setting up for conditionally high damage output and people who prefer always-on. Like you I'm lazy and I just want big number, but if you think about it even the standard high DPS builds are full of conditionals, too - is the enemy out of cover, do they have armor, are you scoped in for more than whatever seconds for Focus, have you been shot in the last 4 seconds for Vigilance, are you in cover for whatever that talent is, whatever.

they're easy conditions to meet, but some of these gearset ones look pretty straightforward too. Might be more compelling than it sounds at first glance. For example, the change to weapon handling and the change to Strikers boils this down to take a handling roll to turn your gun into a laserbeam, then shoot enemy to shoot them harder. That's simple as hell and won't rely on eating 60% extra damage from Sacrifice or not getting shot from a Vigilance backpack. All that matters here is if they finally get hitreg under control and if the extra 0.15% per stack adds up to a reasonable boost.

The catch is that most of those conditions are met by simply playing the game. You want to be in cover, you want to be scoped up with an MMR/Rifle, you don't want to be getting shot, etc.

That set with the repair bonus for people around you seems really good (120% of your heal with the backpack talent I think) but requires you be stacked up, which isn't something you can count on with pubbies or even friends depending on the mission. Fire is a good status effect not because of the damage but because of the CC effect, bleed is more of a convenience since it seems to help finish off that last 1% of health enemies seem to be able to cling to, etc. But unless all these bonuses to status effects boost the damage to the point they're competitive with just...shooting the loving guys in the head some more it's all just flavor. Also you can't bleed/burn/poison drones, minitanks, or warhounds- the latter of which is one of the most deadly enemies in the game. Doing more shooty damage will always be superior on average because of this.

Unless the idea is to carry 4-5 different gear sets on you at all times. I.e. a 6-red DPS build, CC/Healer bot variants (like a pulse-jammer build to dunk on Black Tusk), etc.

Yeah but you are better running a brand chestpiece and backpack with the meta damage talents instead. Brand chest+backpack and then OD on the other four.

:v: Typos, in my PTS?

I think they meant to say that you're just always losing 2 stacks for missing shots, and it's awkwardly phrased. The backpack only increases the damage of the stacks, it no longer reduces stack loss.

The best path going forward is just removing the stack loss on miss since the AI here is incredibly twitchy and constantly moving, rather than the dopes who stood still in Div1 while you filled them with stacks.

Yeah I think this change actually makes Strikers worse despite the increased damage and it already wasn’t great. Unless you’re shooting a tank or robodog you are either 1) missing way too much even under the best of circumstances or 2) firing slowly enough to not miss and therefor negating the entire damage boost. And now on the PTS you’re punished even more for missing.

Nah, I think the lowering the baseline stack loss to 2 instead of 3 is a positive change. Remember that in the live game, the stack loss is 3 per miss and the backpack only reduces it to 2.

Striker's is still going to suck though.

no you're not, they lowered the base penalty and it no longer requires a backpack talent.

Also this is a situation where the 400% buff to weapon handling means it may actually be worth taking on a gear piece. Even in d1 I always took a stability roll to turn my LWM4 into even more of a laser and had absurd stack counts all the time. I imagine they want the same logic to apply here.

e: whatever the gun with the perfect handling perk is, does that basically turn it into a laserbeam now? And is unhinged still ruinously bad?

Unhinged hasn't been changed but you can mitigate its effects entirely now with some handling rolls or potentially using Braced.

It's hard to say since the handling changes from the patchnotes aren't actually in the PTS at the moment.

Even if you could mitigate the effects of Unhinged entirely, there's no more free reload via Fill'er Up or Quickdraw. You could technically run Ninjabike kneepads but as far as DPS builds go, Fox's Prayer still rules that slot.

Re: Striker's, part of the problem is just the AI moves around a lot more and has fairly twitchy movements at that. The AI didn't move as much in Div1 and hitting dudes with flashbangs etc made them extremely easy stationary targets.

No, right now 1% handling is a 0.25% buff to a given stat. When they make the change, it'll be 1% to 1% as merc says, aka four times as much....or 400 percent. It's math, jose. :v:

weapon handling itself is getting a 400% buff, in other words, not your character's total handling stat or whatever.

Guillermus covered the gist of it, but yes the ammo pick up being innate to the set instead of being a backpack talent lets you run another damage talent backpack instead. The extra bleed bonus is ultimately not that useful for a red DPS based build. I'm looking forward to see how much stacking hollow points (20% amp), Perfect Glass Cannon (30% total weapon damage), Vigilance (25% total weapon damage), and Sadist (20% amp on bleed) will do.

Strained or Optimist. Strained benefits low RPM guns the most but requires sustained fire. Optimist does not but the full bonus only comes at the end of a magazine.

You can't roll away the health damage on ARs. It's useful for killing tanks and robots, which do not have armor bars and are considered all health.
