Just loving lol at all you nerds bitching about hl2 without ever playing hl2 co-op using the synergy mod and forget to turn down physics polling which crashes your network the first time you blow up a barrel with any amount of debris near it. Good times.

I played half life 2 a little when it came out: I met a scientist who spoke uninteresting exposition at me for 5 minutes while I was locked in a room and jumped around hitting the environment with my crowbar, then he teleported me to a sewer level filled with flying robot balls, which were unsatisfying to shoot. Then I stopped playing 9/10: a flawed masterpiece

I love when something important happens but I’m facing the wrong way so I don’t see it, it helps me feel like I’m really there and in this seamless immersive world I’m just as gormless as in real life

I never finished halflife 2 because the boat thing was a piece of poo poo and when I got through that the following area didn't live up to the hype for me and I probably will never finish that game and I don't feel like I'm missing out For all the supposedly amazing storytelling it sure didn't make me want to keep playing it

Oh gently caress yes I hate cutscenes. I am so glad this game had me walk really slowly next to someone while they talk. It's so effective and immersing. Can't believe this is such an uncommon technique

[gets locked in a small room while a character talks to thin air in a direction that I am not standing] this is so much better than a cutscene, look how much agency I have. Control was never technically taken away from me, amazing

They should have given Gordon the ability to yell "SHUT UP!", which would automatically cause the person to skip their non-cutscene.

Half Life 2 is a brilliant and unmatched experience from the perspective of someone who considered themselves above console gaming both before and after its release. Perfect Dark had a better single player campaign over half a decade earlier and it didn’t have to rely on physics gimmicks. And I honestly do like Half Life 2, but come on. Its technological advances outshined anything the narrative pulled off by leaps and bounds.

If the Rare collection port is based off the XBLA version it’s pretty much the best official way to play the game. Enjoy! It’s a great game. I might be overselling it a bit but there’s a lot of narrative depth and polish in PD and other games of the generation that get way over-attributed to HL2 when Valve were very much following in the footsteps of those that came before them.

I don't play much shooters but actually liked Halo Reach from what I played of it. Mind you, Halo seems like kind of the middle point between older and newer style shooters, problem is all the newer style shooters took all the worst lessons from it.
