Lawrence Welk is definitely more of a silent era thing. My grandma who straddled the silent and GG eras loved it and would never miss an episode and would ask why people can’t make nice music like this anymore instead of that awful rock and/or roll. Your average boomer rarely flat out hates rock as a genre regardless of how conservative they are and thinks that Welk is corny and cringe as poo poo every bit as much as we do.

At least The Rifleman has the fact that he's a single parent, and they occasionally bring up how that is seen in the larger picture of the wild west. Have Gun Will Travel is pretty good too, if only for the theme song. Why yes, my Mother did subscribe to the western channel, how did you know.

bob dobbs is dead posted:its amusing ourselves to death Thaaaaaats the one. The phrasing was so close I assumed he was quoting it. I did a stint abroad, rural enough where there was basically nothing on TV but local language stuff, none of which I understood so I detoxed a full year off TV. I was still mainlining online news and blogs and stuff at the height of the late 00's but still. Came home and couldn't stand being in the same room as a TV. I was a big old Daily Show lib, Maddow had blown up by the time I got back, and my family tried to get me into her but her just glib superficial smugness drove me into a rage. Eventually I got around to reading Amusing Ourselves to Death and a light went on. I dunno how much in the book is right or wrong, but there is definitely some bad brain poison in TV. I'll still stream comedies and stuff, occasional drama, but man... Television. Tried watching PlutoTV cause a bunch of my favorite comedians are in a show they own. Got halfway through an ep because they run commercials it seems like every five minutes. It might help I came back at the end of 2008, I'd spent eight months mainlining worldwide economic doom starting from Bear Stearns and was in Europe when the Euro imploded and Iceland went broke and no one knew what the gently caress and two weeks later I'm home people are yelling on the mainstream TV news about Obama giving dap and not wearing a flag pin like there were literally no other issues in the world, so my experience my not be representative. It's not like either dungeons or dragons are inherently offensive things to Christians. Nonsense moral panic can from anywhere, a title is no defense against it. Remember when Mass Effect was accused of basically being a sex simulator on Fox News? Anything can be twisted if you try hard enough and your audience is unquestioning. Partners and Pilgrims huh? Partners... more like PROLETARIAT. This reds are trying to teach collectivist propaganda to our kids, and wrapping it in the veneer of the pilgrims! Good lord I can see the Chick tract.

It was partners and pilgrims because these are things cowboys/John Wayne say, not because it was related to the pilgrims with the hats and the mayflower

Just like Boomers think literal children are Millennials, Millennials think everything older than them are Boomers. Welk and westerns are Silent/Greatest gen territory. A Boomer western would be Clint Eastwood or Kevin Kline in Silverado. Sure, some liked John Wayne, but westerns as a movie genre largely died when Boomers were in their 20's and 30's.
