except maybe east asian ones lmao best alpha bet is this one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%CA%BCPhags-pa_script came across it when looking up tibetan buddhism this was my takeaway about tibetan buddhism so basically buddhism is like, here's ya consciousness, lets look into it and see what it does and what it shows, and lots of techniques evolved around it but some people decided that just doing meditation wasnt enough so lets discover all sorts of esoteric rituals to enhance what consciousness might do. tantric tricks. eat jizz. look at weird hosed up mandals. that kind of thing also the pointing out instruction which i still cant grasp gently caress it all

i was doing some spring cleaning and ran across a ye olde eye-fi pro x2 SD card featuring 8gb of memory along with the built in wifi these cards were hella nifty back in their day imo and saved me a buncha time when photographing some events (and also the 2.4ghz spectrum wasn’t so absolutely clogged up back then either )

Folks were amazed back when it was less commonplace.

KOTEX GOD OF BLOOD posted:japanese doesnt share any roots with other languages and it's not really clear where it came from at all the thing to consider is that japanese itself is the root of a family of languages. many "dialects" of japanese are not mutually intelligible the difference between a dialect and a language is an army and a flag e.g. the "chinese language" which is actually a family of languages as rich in complexity and difference as, for example, all the romance languages

KOTEX GOD OF BLOOD posted:okay but japanese dialects are a lot more mutually intelligible than, say, mandarin and cantonese, as i understand it i am not a native speaker of any of these languages so i have no firsthand evidence it is claimed by others that okinawan is entirely unintelligible to most japanese speakers; also the far ends of the tokyo vs osaka continuums mandarin and cantonese are pretty far apart, but there are lots of chinese languages more closely related to mandarin....

it is a very modern kind of classic yospos experience to read a polite debate among a bunch of people about something they don't know much about, hiding this fact by expressing everything very carefully, knowing that the moment an actually demonstrably false statement is made it'll collapse into some creative name-calling with no further progress. the modernity being that we've all mostly gotten too old to sound entirely cocksure about the many things we don't know.

also, koreans are generally not taught hanja in school anymore as it is seen as a remnant of japanese imperialism. this is actually a bit of a shame as it makes learning japanese/chinese a lot easier
