The smaller Loco unit is 24v only. Yay! Makes things so much easier. stevewm fucked around with this message at 15:57 on May 22, 2020 |

We have a website we maintain with one of our subsidiaries. They handle the marketing, and used to handle the site design; my team does the rest. I added a promotion to one of the pages, but the change was being overwritten by another change using JavaScript. It turns out that the subsidiary had added in the JavaScript via Google Optimize. They didn't tell us, when we could have made the change in plain HTML. I'm manually adding it to the page, and the marketing guy who added the snippet sent me a picture rather than the actual code. It's highly styled making this a pain.

This is why IT should stay the gently caress out of websites. Have marketing figure out what web designers / developers they want to work with and host the site on something you have no control over. I might monitor SSL/TLS cert for expiry and maybe do some basic up/down monitoring, as a professional courtesy, but that's about it.

Thanks Ants posted:The UniFi Building Bridge is 802.3af as well Ohhh.. I didn't know about this product. We already have a large install base of Unifi APs, so it would fit in nicely. But in this case I am doing PtMP, and that appears to only be PtP. The Nanostation AC is a bit overkill for my use; I'll probably have to turn the power near all the way down, but at least its 802.3af.

Everything at work is on fire, has been on fire for weeks, and will probably be on fire for a while longer. To console myself, I bought a plush "this is fine" dog. It brings me joy. I've been strategically putting it into the background behind me during video meetings.

My employer site has been completely shut down since mid march, only a small percentage of people necessary to keep the lights on have been allowed in. From a work perspective this is great, but they also have some massive land and walking trails that I would have loved to be using. Would have been nice to get out in the spring air with no one else around, but it was not to be.

While the consumer/SMB focused UniFi line has gone entirely standards-based, for whatever loving stupid reason they continue to release products in their service provider lines that ONLY support non-standard PoE. It obviously makes perfect sense that a lot of their new gear supports both modes for compatibility with existing installations of older hardware, but they have products in their "early access" store that only support 24v passive mode.

My only connection to this project was setting up the SSO integration with Azure, and I sent all the stakeholders an email with the correct URL they need to navigate to for the SSO to kick in. This user just doesn't seem to get the concept that she has to use the specific URL that I provided or it won't sign her in. For the last 3 days I've gotten emails saying that the SSO isn't working. Each time I've looked into it, I've found that she's bookmarked some other random URL for the site. Drop a shortcut icon to the website onto her desktop. It really, really shouldn't be necessary, but you'll save yourself a lot of aggravation.

I got a third party support team that's hooked me up with their developer. Nothing is their developer's fault without first deflecting blame. Their latest one, this dude has the audacity to tell me that the PHP mail function doesn't work on all dedicated servers. Am I in La La land or something? Then I think the dude is accidentally trying to gaslight me on another support issue, because I'm about to be pulling up old threads to snuff this out--but why should I have to! It's circles around bullshit code all day long.

"Doesn't work on all dedicated servers" is a kind of stupid way of phrasing "it's possible to misconfigure PHP and/or the local machine's mail transfer agent such that PHP's mail() function will not operate properly" which is a true statement. Does mail() work outside of this program?

Someone wanted to politically backstab my group so bad we just blew 180k on a contract we signed 2 months ago by stopping using that product per their shadow work on an alternate solution (I should have been looking for it I know) and going way above our heads. The people with prior cloud experience and new scary ideas are apparently really scary to the old guard with legacy applications migrating to Azure.

mllaneza posted:Or you're on a buggy version of the client. I sorely wish they hadn't postponed the general push of Pulse Secure 9.1.4, it fixed so many issues my team was having, never mind the customer issues. After the absolute shitshow that was our upgrade to 9.1.2 last year, I'm good with waiting for a while. Although, the problem wasn't really with Pulse - it was the abomination of an upgrade script that was pushed out via BigFix. Worked great - if you were on the wired network at the office. If you were out of the office and connected via vpn - that's where the real fun happened. Apparently, only the first half of the upgrade was downloaded locally - the part that removed vital components from Pulse in preparation for the upgrade. Once those components were gone, it would download the new components from the server and install them. I'm sure you see the problem here - vpn user would get the BigFix notification and run the update. Pulse Secure would close, the parts of the program that allowed for a vpn connection would be deleted, and then the script would poo poo the bed and fail. Because the rest of the upgrade files were on the server - which was only accessible if you were on the network - which could no longer happen, since Pulse was basically useless at that point. The fix? Users had to physically go to a location, connect to the network, and contact the help desk to let them know they were connected. The help desk would then escalate a ticket to the Enterprise support desk, and the Pulse secure upgrade would be pushed back down to the user through BigFix. This went over quite well with our full-time WFH users - some of whom are 2-3 hours from the nearest physical location.
