Notch could have started an indie fund where small teams send their ideas and he then throws 100 thousand bucks each to the ten best ideas over the course of a year. And he could do that every year for the rest of his life without even making a dent in his candy fund. A yearly festival celebrating what was accomplished and what was attempted could probably be entirely sponsor funded. He could have been a cherished icon of the indie community for life while hanging out with all coolest and brightest developers the world over. The indie king for all he likes at practically no cost. Instead he sits in his candy dungeon waiting to die.

Well, he moved away from all his friends in Sweden which I find strange, of course he's alone if that's the case. The people living in his affluent neighbourhood probably find him a bit strange because he's a pasty foreign nerd that came from the middle class so it's hard for him to find likeminded people where he chose to live, he could've just got a nice apartment in central Stockholm and bought a summer home in Beverly Hills or something so he wouldn't be that far from his real friends. Btw, I remember that in minecraft it used to say "woo, somethingawful" or something, did he used to be a goon?

I got into minecraft in something like 2011 and even then Notch avoided anything minecraft related on principle as he struggled to prove that it was not his "Sims" and that he could do it again.

I wonder if part of Notch's woes can be credited to the fact that he got bonkers rich off a game primarily played by small children. Like, if it was something targeted at adults, he'd have a pretty steady stream of people wanting to starfuck just because they like his thing. But no, most of the people who would go "HOLY poo poo THE GUY WHO MADE MINECRAFT WANTS TO HANG OUT WITH ME!?!?" are under the age of twelve, and that probably puts him in a somewhat bad place for the kind of social interaction he clearly wanted.

I had an image of Notch stumbling around his mansion as he flails about playing Half-Life: Alyx and when at whatever point he decides he's done with the game says out loud "This game is terrible" and hears only the faint echo. Of course, knowing my luck, if I did somehow luck into some kind of massive fortune through some invention or popularity, chances are that a week after my dream home was constructed, the Revolution would finally come and I'd be dragged out of my home and decapitated by the crosswalk, in keeping with the 'Kill the Rich' notion. I mean, that's great for everyone else, but still... Actually, the more I think about it, not being rich and famous has a lot of benefits.
