Lol I was never a suspected foreign spy. I also accidentally walked into some kind of military zone in Taiwan but they just told me to turn around, no handcuffs.

Look, I've known a lot of people in Asia to be taken into various forms of custody. I can't be expected to keep all the details straight. My favorite is the goon in Thailand who got picked up while on a jog for running through a firing range. There was of course a lot of questioning of who he was and then when they realized he was just an idiot who ignored the (Thai language) signs, they invited him to watch them blow some stuff up.

Germany has repatriated more Brits than the UK govt.

Speaking of the Cultural Revolution, someone the other day pointed out this video from Wen Jiabao's last press conference in 2012. Wonder if this is going to become like Eisenhower's farewell address warning of the rise of the military-industrial complex: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtTDSQ0_4Xg quote:Urgent reform is needed to prevent a repeat of the "historical tragedy" of the Cultural Revolution, Chinese premier Wen Jiabao said in a rare emotional speech today. Elemental mercury is actually safe to drink. Your digestive tract does not absorb it in any capacity, it goes in one end and comes out the other. In that context, it is 100% harmless and non-toxic. What makes elemental mercury dangerous is the vapors. Your lungs are way too happy to pick up the stomach's slack and absorb the evaporated mercury it's constantly putting off at room temperature. A neat long form party trick is to drink mercury while exhaling and not end up with brain damage 20 years later. It's the mercury salts that get kind of sketchy. But they're still actually really good disinfectants. They found use in medicine for a very long time because killing an infection now was a desirable tradeoff to suffering madness later. Also you can drop your surgical instruments in them for a while and they're perfectly sanitized. Even prions fear the mighty Mercuric (III) Chloride. Just don't breathe when you're rummaging around the closet where you keep it.
