Using sixt in Europe was great. They have a minor presence here in the US with a slow expansion going on. Best rental company I’ve used with great rates. If you live in an area they’re located in give them a shot.

It is with good reason that Hertz went bankrupt while the other car rental companies are still solvent. They were owned by private equity for a while, but you can't even blame that because everything they've done since then has been pretty boneheaded. They had a bad CEO, they alienated a bunch of employees by relocating the corporate office, they completely bungled the acquisition of Dollar Thrifty, they had a big accounting scandal that led to executives being sued, Carl Icahn got involved and all along the whole operation rested on a lot of financial chicanery.Matt Levine posted:Why did car-rental company Hertz Global Holdings Inc. file for bankruptcy on Friday? Instead of simply holding the deposit itself and deducting the cost of the rental from the deposit, Enterprise holds the deposit and the cost of the rental, only letting go of the deposit days after return. You wind up with an extra $100+ hold you could be doing something else with.

I worked in a tiny store at a Simon mall and since it was so small there was no need for more than one employee at a time. I had a family emergency and had to close early, went to the management office and let them know why I was closing up and they said it was okay. End of the month came and they added a fine to the rent that month for not abiding to the mall hours. gently caress them.

I've spent my life having to get basically all my pants hemmed, since nobody makes them assuming you're 5'3"(no matter which gender's department you're shopping in - even in the women's department, petite sizes are surprisingly rare). Just buy whatever fits your waist and go hem from there. If you have a Uniqlo near you they'll hem their jeans in-store after you buy them, although that doesn't help right now.

At some point my bank just started hiding these charges in a "temporary authorizations" area and not counting it against the balance until it clears. But they didn't always do that and the first time this happened to me was on my first vacation and I'm suddenly several hundreds of miles away from home with no money on my card which meant I had to put my room on debit which did a temporary hold too giving me like 20 in spending money, having to learn that lesson the hard way.

J. It fits at my natural waist instead of below the waist like I usually wear them. That looks better, but it’s going to take some getting used to. The length is perfect though.

Back in college there was a Shell gas station near my girlfriend's house that would put something like a $100 hold on the card, which I of course didn't have that full amount. It would then decline my card so I couldn't actually get gas, except the hold would still be there so I couldn't use my card at all until I went to the bank the next day to get the hold taken off. The entire system seems dumb as poo poo.

The whole point of an authorization is to reserve some of the balance to make sure that an equal charge will go through at a later time. No?

I had a charge from a utility company listed as a temp hold for so long that the hold finally fell off and the amount returned to my account. Someone must have noticed because the following day, the charge appeared for a second time, albeit it finally went through.
