I appreciate that they couldn't get away with saying Hell on children's television so Hela became "Hecka". Also I thought she was going to be Hugin and Mumin because they show her portrait twice in the entrance hall as they're walking in, and a tag team that's a pair of Norse one-eyed ravens would have been the perfect long bomb reference.

Also starting to realise why Dewey is staked out as his generation's Donald: he has the same continue-despite-ridiculous-odds determination. And I think Louie even gives Dewey almost the same uplifting speech that he does Donald in the casino episode. However, he doesn't have the same explosive temper to go with it (which went to Huey) but instead tends to finally act serious when properly motivated rather than just showboating. Interesting personality showcase there; it's been established before that Dewey has a serious need for attention and praise, almost uniquely among his family, and it's really not surprising that he can't handle the heat of being seen as the bad guy. Scrooge may not have much experience in show business but he seems happy to play the role that suits him in this case, since he isn't expecting to be popular on his foe's home turf, and probably used to a measure of bad PR in any case. Funny thing is Dewey basically ends up playing a narcissist-type heel by accident, since he's literally expecting it to play out like one of his dreams. Also, it makes a lot of sense that a fighting style more for spectacle than anything where winning isn't really important was invented in Vallhalla; where the majority of inhabitants are already dead and spend most of their time fighting for the amusement of each other and the gods, and likely don't hold grudges about losing when everyone gets back up to feast every night. If they win, the entire population of Earth joins them, and they don't see it as genocide. (Though that still totally makes it Mortal Kombat) But if they lose, they don't really lose anything and get to have another fight another century.

Scrooge's hesitance at the start to call Dewey's name as the next champion for Ragnarok-Mania wasn't just him being a dick, but rather because he knows Team Earth is cast as the heel and Dewey won't be able to handle the hate. And while the pep talk was Scrooge being kind and telling Dewey he doesn't need to force himself into the role, it's also not really what Dewey wanted to hear. It's just pretty novel in a cartoon where someone's idea of kindness doesn't mesh well with what another character wants. Also, Webby has become the master of trash-talking. Lena taught her well.

Which, come to think of it, is quite a piece of advice from someone whose whole thing is talking his way out of things- but then again, Louie's talent is specifically noted to be seeing the angles and setting things up so people do what he expects, and that requires understanding what people's talents and motivations are, and recognising they can do things he can't. (Which is also something Louie learned a more recent episode, as Dewey's improvisation succeeded where Louie's elaborate plan failed) ...come to think of it, that seems significant given the emphasis that Scrooge employs a lot of eccentric and weird people, usually competent in exactly one field, and with the kids has to learn to keep a diverse bunch of personalities under control in intense situations. Scrooge is actually a pretty effective boss, all round, and in some episodes you can see him rapidly tone-switching to deal with different people in a way they'll respond to.

Watching the Ragnarok episode now and did a double-take when Strongbeard is introduced as the Hammer from Kraghammer. Ducktales voice director Sam Riegel is on another show called Critical Role (where a bunch of nerdy rear end voice actors sit around and play Dungeons & Dragons) and the first story arc in campaign one takes place in the dwarven city of Kraghammer. Also loving Kristoffer Hivju as Jormungandr.

Looking at Donald and Della and how they interact puts a lot of Scrooge's past and future actions in perspective. He's quite happy with the kids being rowdy and treating (most of) the mansion as a playground because it's just like old times. On the other hand, what we do see does indicate why he brought the kids and not them to Valhalla; while Donald and Della are formidable in a fight they're also prone to being their own worst enemy, and if they came alongside the kids they'd probably get overprotective and get disqualified for unnecessary roughness. He seems pleasantly surprised overall that the kids can work together so well despite being so different. For that matter, Scrooge having a huge mansion separate from the Money Bin might make older incarnations of him disapprove, but it makes a lot of sense in context; Scrooge has a shitton of stuff, and also more of a clear separation between his personal property and company assets. It wasn't made entirely clear, but I got the idea Louie schemed his way into ownership of McDuck Enterprises (and Glomgold's company) but not Scrooge's personal assets, hence why all his extravagant purchases had to be paid for by cutting expenses elsewhere. The Money Bin is a corporate facility that houses Scrooge's personal office, their R&D and other assets along with the giant pool of gold and treasure, as well as a secondary boardroom, and I don't think we've seen it but it's mentioned he has a probably far more ordinary office in downtown Duckburg that the board of directors do most of their business in. (official business, anyway) Much like the directors themselves, it seems a more realistic (and practical) depiction of a modern megacorporation's management than Scrooge doing everything himself unquestioned. Also, given Scrooge apparently has a history of being trapped in a timeless demon dimension, turned into a child, sent back and forth through time etc. it's probably wise to have the company able to function for long periods without him having to micromanage things. Also, on Moonvasion; not only did Donald expect the kids to disobey him to join in on the attack, I think he might even have guessed they'd specifically go underwater- it's established earlier in the episode they have access to diving equipment, that Gyro's lab is currently open to the sea, and it's the only angle that none of the adults are currently covering. And wondering if Donald was in the navy in this continuity, since he's actually for once established to be an experienced sailor enough that he actually enjoys aquatic adventures that he can contribute to. Which might correspondingly imply Della was in the Air Force- would make sense since she actually knows what she's doing unlike the self-taught Launchpad, and likes fighter plane style nose art. I can buy Donald being in the Navy. He's willing to take orders (to a point). I think Della is too independent-minded to have been apart of an organized military. I can see her being skilled and talented enough to take a plane (or spaceship) into combat - but not as part of an official national military.

Moonvasion where they fight over the controls of the spaceship, yeah. And judging from Scrooge's reaction this is entirely normal for them. Definitely explains why Scrooge hired Launchpad. Also makes an interesting contrast to the kids, who have diverse skillsets with some overlap, and generally recognise this and let the one they know is best suited to a situation lead the way. Usually if there's conflict it's with Dewey, who has the more rounded skillset but often prefers to approach situations differently than Huey or Louie would (see The Infernal Internship and Louie's Eleven) with more emphasis on improvisation than having a complex plan. There have been a few episodes that almost make a minor point of Launchpad making a successful landing, including the latest one. I get the feeling this is on purpose, and a result of how Launchpad is very clearly self-taught, and probably didn't have a steady job with a single vehicle until working for Scrooge- and only started being employed as his pilot as well as chauffeur with the first episode. He's actually getting better at his job over time, and especially recently since Della is capable of giving him actual flying lessons, and is also actually improving the plane with his repairs, apparently. That his bubble gum is apparently a better filter for the smoke machine than the intended one sounds like a familiar kind of situation to a seasoned jury-rigger, as well as probably a TaleSpin reference. ...also I imagine it make Scrooge happy to save money on repairs for the thing.

The latest one is very much a joke that Launchpad landing a plane successfully is a sign that the world's about to end because of Jormungandr. That, and Launchpad slowly getting better at piloting is very much them building him up to go
