Because I stumbled upon it by total accident: Around level 35 or 40, you can get an extra 5 skill points for your class by doing a client order - there's a bunch of NPCs around the area by the Class Trainer & Alliance Desk that only offer Client Orders after you talk to them (maybe they only appear after progressing the story enough?) Either way there seems to be one for nearly every class, with some doubling up.

Apparently there's another at 45?

Those NPCs also seem to be a handy way to start off a new class too since they offer freebie weapons and an order to use it.

Same, I've been waiting to try this game for so long. The UI is out of control and it's too small for my lovely eyesight. The gameplay feels good, but it's just everything else. I realize we are being put into an MMO that's been existing for years, but feeling pretty overwhelmed from the start. One tutorial mission and then you fill your 20/20 quest log. I don't know if it's rose tinted glasses, but I'm just not feeling the same pull from the game I played on Dreamcast. I'm going to give it a few more missions though to see if it clicks.

Seems to be. I tried for a bit and gave up. Errors No602 & 604. Some people are saying there are only 10 blocks active, so maybe something happened. Ships 4-6 seem offline for various reasons too, but I was able to log in far enough to get to the character select screen on ships 1 & 3, so the whole thing isn't busted I guess.

There's an option in the launcher to scale UI up if you're on a high resolution screen - it's optimised for 720p. I find setting it to 1.25x is most comfortable.

The menus say 1.5x text are for 1080p, and that's what I've been using since I found it. Works fine for my old-man eyes.

Dabir

1.5x on 1080p is fine, but it makes the UI the same size relatively as it would be at 1x on 720p, I feel that's a little cramped. I think I actually play at 1x on JP, where the font is a lot bigger and chunkier. 1x with the NA font is completely intolerable.

FYI every privacy issue one might object to with Windows 10 has long since been backported to Windows 8, while still using Windows 7 or before while connected to the internet is about like rawdogging an escort in Reno. I'm assuming it's a privacy issue because I can't imagine someone actually just preferring the Windows 8.1 UI over 10.

So what I'm saying is if you have to use Windows you might as well use the latest one because they gonna get your sweet data either way. Dehumanize yourself and data to Microsoft.

While a lot of the trash from 10 has been brought back to 8.1, I can say that at least 8.1 doesn't have completely absurd advertising built into the OS (looking at you, start menu suggestions).

You can make win10 behave with enough effort, but you have to fight it absolutely every step of the way. Wanting to avoid that seems p reasonable, imo.

But they're gonna kill 8.1 eventually. So you can't keep using it forever and stay on the internet safely. So if you know you have to use some flavor of Windows so you're gonna have to update eventually, and there's something you want that's only on Windows 10 now, why wait?

Maybe it's not worth the $$ for a FTP game but if they had just cleaned up the drat menus and bloat and I could log in with a list of missions to do without worrying about missing some quest or core gameplay feature or the horrendous storage situation or not knowing if any of these junk loot items are any good or not, I would probably really like this game.

The mission thing is kinda a mess, yeah, there is daily orders which get you an XP boost, and there's recommended missions which usually seem to be associated with daily orders, but after that it's messy. When taking the recommended missions I'll get popups with related orders, but then like, not for anything else. That said, when at an NPC who gives out orders, you can filter by map (eg: Forest/Desert) so you can kinda figure out which might be relevant that way?

It does feel like the stuff you find under "main missions" in your menu is decent guidance to various important game features though.

Storage situation fuckin sucks, but you can shift/ctrl click stuff in your inventory and mass "send to storage" which I guess you might wanna do for any material stuff or consumalbes you don't plan to use soon?

The game's item compare feature should probably be more then enough to tell if junk loot is good or not though. Numbers go up? Equip. Numbers don't go up? Vendor. I can't imagine any early or even mid game items are going to be worth hanging onto. Maybe with a caveat to figure out what sort of stuff you want to feed your mag (I have to give mine melee weapons) and hang onto some of that.

What are y'all goons using for controller layouts? I see that there's an option to bind a separate button to "weapon action" which lets you squeeze in a 5th PA into your bar, but there's no free buttons anywhere on the default controller layout...
If I play melee, will I be fine unbinding the free-cam button and using right stick click for lock-on or something instead?

Yeah, I finally bit the bullet and upgraded from 7 to 10 for this. I guess I just needed an actual excuse to do it and the fact that despite what Microsoft tells you the upgrade is still free got me to do it and honestly? Easiest upgrade I’ve ever done. Yeah 10 has some quirky and dumb poo poo but so did all the earlier os’s.

Also, only about another day or two before it’s finished downloading!

There is, actually! In the login menu (after you agree to the user agreement, before you get to the list of ships) there's a language settings option where you can turn voices back to Japanese.

Personally I actually really like the dub though, outside of the older male characters they very clearly casted a younger guy to play.

wait so I buy a cute jacket for my robot lady, and discover that she does, in fact, come with "basewear", but I didn't get a chance to choose the colors on it during character generation so now it doesn't match my head at ALL. And it disables the "hover" movement.

The voices dont line up with the animations in JP either. They either intentionally didn't lipsync it, or it is a mistake that they just decided to roll with after JP release.

Apparently the MS store still requires you to give an american address when adding a USD balance to your account from a gift card. Or so I've heard online.

I dunno what "it wouldn't work" means, but if the game won't let you bind those keys in particular you could always look into using something like AutoHotkey to rebind them.
