I like that the mad men mlk assassination episode wants me to believe the petes, trudys, dons of the world actually wouldve cared at all I guess you can charitably interpret it as expressions of riot anxiety/fear ("what will the negroes do to us now?!?")rather than think the show actually expects me to believe its personally-affected grief... But then the only real black character immediately has some line probably written by a room full of white dudes about the "fools running in the streets" (concern trolling about rioting and looting, which strikes particularly deep considering recent events) I dont even like her, she's so personally invested in being a perfect palatable friend to these characters like she watches the show and knows to understand that under joan's/peggy's/don's bristling rude exteriors there's.....????????? I started noticing it in Final Fantasy XIV, weirdly enough. There's a scene at one point where all the 'good' nations finally have a sit-down meeting with the big evil Emperor. The actual intent of that scene is to show that, while the nations you've walked at this point are all flawed and have sins in their past or present the Empire is A: even worse, and B: led by a man who is completely unreasonable, and whose outlook on the world is clearly batshit insane. I find that most people get that overall, but there's a group of players that see that whole scene, and whose only takeaway is that the Emperor delivered a 'verbal smackdown' by calling out one of the six-ish nations for how it treats its tribal minorities. They even completely ignore that the Empire handle their tribal minorities with genocide. There's no getting through to these people, because they really do value the willingness to say factual truths beyond any actual moral character or history.

The characters are bad people, yeah, but it's more because they're aliens and don't give a gently caress than being actively toxic people like Rick.

Obviously for most of the movie the Narrator does want to be Tyler Durden, but by the end he realizes he doesn't want this anymore. You could argue he was just scared at how big his project was becoming, but I like to think he was more like that ex-KKK guy who realized just how hosed up everything he was doing really was and then devotes the rest of his life to helping others. Again, main complaint is that the movie focuses entirely on the destruction of the existing with no regard whatsoever as to what comes after, this includes the Narrator and how he is going to address the horrible things he did.

The books illustrator had no idea what anybody looked like and nobody bothered to correct him and continued to use him for all the books too. Lan is basically supposed to be a blue eyed asian Conan the Barbarian. The first book cover even had an extra person that got cut after Jordan gave notes to the artist but before he finished the book.

The anime-y style animated physically exaggerated stereotypes of black people, the Bill Cosby-esque "good" "bad" black people dichotomy... The idea that somehow black culture or "black on black violence" is so much worse now than in MLK's time that he'd show up to give a speech about how all the stereotypes are real. As if he never experienced frustration with black culture when he was alive, as if somehow black people and black culture are so much more "ungrateful" or degenerated now. I get the joke was partially that MLK was acting so not-MLK-y, but thinking of the thoughts and assumptions white people must've formed, felt were validated, and must still form watching poo poo like this is genuinely scary. Its hard to describe but they need to have some of the characters to occasionally pull something over on Rick because we run into the problem you have now with Rick. Cartman was kinda similar except occasionally he would get completely owned by someone.

The fact is that Beth is still choosing to be with him, and that pisses Rick off to no end because he knows Beth could do exponentially better, at least by his standards of better. Despite all of their problems, they try to make it work, and Rick has to see that every single day, because for all of his talk of nihilism, he needs his family, and that still includes Jerry. But, like I said, the problem is that that isn't a super obvious and showy win, and Rick still gets to do God Science dunks on everybody to assert his superiority.

The one R&M episode I had a real issue with was the one where he dates Unity, the hive mind who can control people on a whim. Summer finds it unethical that she's making slaves of people. Wacky hijinks ensue, and the twist at the end is that the people were terrible and being part of a hive mind was better for everyone. Except most of the wacky hijinks were Rick having sex with Unity through the people she controlled. Like, hundreds of women in a stadium having an orgy. Completely against their will. And it was played for laughs. That icked me out.

in other great moments of House, Cameron and Chase start loving one another when Cameron steals a dying homosexual's stash of potentially contaminated party drugs and Chase comes by when she's high and fucks her. then she shows up to work the next day still high and House makes fun of Chase for being a rapist. this is the start of the Chase/Cameron romance which lasts the rest of the show.

Things dragging down Once Upon A Time: Season 7 was actually the best season in years and season 8 would have probably been a winner. Those small-town-Maine sets were getting really tired and the new roles for old characters as well as half the cast being replaced was honestly a good breath of fresh air.
