The string of races and finishes from 2011-present has been truly the golden era for the race, they are all so outrageously good in their own way every year. I just rewatched 2019 and had completely forgotten that Rossi was leading with 1 1/4 laps to go and side by side with 2 corners to go.

Best race, biggest race.

I know most of yall prolly scroll by my "wall of videos" ITS MAY MOTHERFUCKERS post every year, but I actually watch them all every time. Its so good and im a freak ok

Sato's crossing-the-line radio is the second best radio call ever, and yes that's above King Hiro. Anyone mad about Sato winning doesn't know what Indy means.

Lights being cancelled sucks, but is unsurprising and makes sense. Also makes me rethink whether or not to do Carb Day, and that's dependent on whether or not I end up doing the race at all.

one dude worked himself into a newspaper column about flying the Japanese flag in celebration at Indy and what about the war yadda yadda that wound up getting him canned in a matter of days.

but yeah for somebody who'd done well and become a real fan favorite in the U.S. to win Indy after his close call a couple years prior, Sato absolutely earned it, and that really impacted how the sport was seen here. I think Sato is really the standout Japanese driver of his generation from a popularity and skill standpoint.

plenty of people from the south have flown reb colors like the flag of texas after winning on a day that's supposed to be about honoring the union dead.

like texas 2017 was peak sato insanity, clearly has so much personality in how he drives.

At least he's doing better than nascar's "Japanese" driver

I posted this in the NASCAR thread, but apparently Nashville Superspeedway is coming back to life, and the track owners would like to bring Indycar back as well from what I've read.

That'd be cool, especially with it being Newgarden's hometown.

No fans at IMS July 4th weekend:

quote:

While the State of Indiana plans to enter Stage 5 of its “Back on Track Indiana” plan on July 4, opening sporting events to fans with social distancing, Marion County – home to IMS – moved to Stage 3 ten days after the rest of the state, and we cannot be confident that it will be ready to move to Stage 5 by the holiday weekend. This approach follows national trends for larger communities, and we must follow those guidelines and the leadership and judgement of our city and state officials during this challenging time.

Same, definitely a SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY moment when I saw practice was on gold only. A shame we lost Lights for this year, their coverage in 2019 was definitely an improvement. With the condensed schedule for today, I assume anyone experiencing serious technical issues (or a crash) is pretty much done for at this point. I'm also apprehensive about the mandatory tire stops at what, 35 laps maximum? I don't know how that's gonna shake things up, but either way I'm thrilled to see cars on track again.
