I got a priority 1 "everything is on fire" phone call before I had even put my glasses on this morning and it was literally just for one person's VPN loving up but apparently they went to someone who wears fancy suits and has a new porsche every model year instead of calling the service desk

Have an agonizing toothache and can't be seen til tomorrow.

Really need to get some work done but can barely think straight with how bad it hurts. Going to try Tylenol with the Ibuprofen and see if that helps.

Also feel phlegmy and convinced it's my lungs filling with goop as the Rona takes me before lunchtime.

Got Standup in 5 minutes.

A couple weeks ago I took off work entirely and I think that break is really keeping me going at the moment. Everybody else seems to be crashing pretty hard right now. More than half of the people I have talked to over the past couple days are taking time off soon.

school's ouuuut for summer and now we have a curfew in the evening hours when i like to go ride my bike because it's cool so instead i am cleaning the poo poo out of my apartment. gotta do stuff.

i wanted to get some more of those nice clean white ikea storage boxes, but earliest delivery is july 7th lol and the drive-in pickup system is 100% swamped. every single store has said they have no slots available for the last three days i've tried it.

so last night i opened up three different orders with the three ikeas in the vicinity and set an autoclicker script to attempt each one in sequence all night long. woke up this morning and i got a spot and i just need to drive to sacramento to pick them up.

i find it very interesting that ikea is basically not set up at all for shipping, despite the fact that it's drat near all flatpack. their entire business is designed to drag your rear end through the store as much as possible.

there's a nightstand i was looking at but the only ikea nearby (lol ~1 hour drive at best) is still closed even for pickups. shipping is estimated to take three weeks. ikea works in weird ways i guess.

Scud Hansen

Darkness and Evil
I always thought that was really weird. It's a pain in the rear end to get things shipped from Ikea and almost nothing is ever in stock. Why?

SO DEMANDING
Dec 27, 2003

i think they're so hell bent on getting you to go through a physical store (so you end up buying more poo poo than planned) that they simply don't have their logistics set up for it. i'd bet everything is optimized for stocking the stores, not shipping small amounts of items to individual customers.

it kinda makes sense, but you'd think it wouldn't be that much more overhead or effort to have some decent shipping options, and it looks especially dumb now with covid grinding everything to a halt

exactly. even if you're buying something they have in-house but needs a forklift to get to or something that would easily tack on an additional hour or two while they fetch it, and in-person getting it set for delivery had you set a delivery date weeks in advance

yes fortunately ups et al charge a shitload if ur not amzn shipping boxes of mostly air

could see a model where ikea drop ship a pallet of batched orders to a contractor in ur city (some schmuck in the suburbs garage) and pay them to mule it out for you and everyone else who ordered recently

challenge there is how to follow the ikea model to incorporate that subsidiary as charity as a tax scam
