ive definitely struggled pretty hard throughout the lockdown period. the group I ended up in is pretty dysfunctional and the research is, well just not that interesting anymore. plus the lockdown started right in the middle of a big hardware task and I simultaneously just want that off my mind but also dreading it because it’s going to be a loving huge pain, especially because social distancing is just going to make it harder. i just have the feeling that I used to like doing what I do before getting my current position, and I’ve just been ground into a paste and I just kind of don’t enjoy it right now. so it’s very difficult to actually get any work of note done at the moment.

I crush a fluoride tablet between my teeth a bit and then brush my teeth with a toothpaste with triclosan in it so my teeth get saturated and brushed in antiseptic fluoride mix and I just presume this means you don’t have to ever go to a dentist again

got a crown in lockdown due to a tooth showing suddenly weakened enamel walls and pain, proceeded to bite something at an odd way and sprain the ligament which has extended recovery to many weeks. ive always been sensitive for weeks after even minor fillings, so I'm not surprised but i do look forward to the day I can chew things fully

oh and the temporary crown coincided with a shift in my wisdom teeth so now none of my teeth match my old bite and things keep shifting. the plus is that in doing so, I now have perfectly aligned front teeth and the minor overbite I always had is gone i did find a novamin style toothpaste in the us from dr collins (biomin c) that has helped with my regular sensitivity and alternate that with sensodyne for fluoride protection

I had to get four shots of lidocaine with their largest needle because apparently gingers have sensitive teeth (which explains a lot) and also a wicked high tolerance to anaesthetics and I apparently have a large jawbone the dentist was like “yeah that was about 3x the normal dose I usually give patients” then started drilling and gently caress me could I feel it, so I got the fourth and he was like “if this won’t do it the. well have to break out the big guns” I don’t want to know what the big guns are

# ? Jun 5, 2020 01:33 |
Same, they give me so much that I'm numb for pretty much the rest of the day after I get a filling. I had some surgery a while back and that dude gave me double the normal local and a booster partway through and I could still feel it.

I had my appendix removed in 2018 I felt vaguely sick and lethargic and took a nap and woke up at 5:30 PM and still felt sick and lethargic so I asked my wife to take me to the hospital, once I got there they told me I needed emergency surgery and put me under at 6:45 PM or so, I woke up at 9:00 PM and left the hospital by 10:00 PM because I didn't want to blow a PTO day for surgery. When I went back to get the incision inspected the surgeon told me I was out of my mind for leaving so fast.

My understanding of the "big guns" is they give you twilight anaesthesia, which is where they give you enough local to not die of shock but otherwise you're in extreme pain the whole time, but it's okay because you won't remember any of it the next day.
