PSO2 is an action game, you use your skills to suit the situation and what you want to do. Chasing an enemy? Use a gapcloser. Out of PP? Regenerate it with weapon attack. About to be hit? Dodge, block, use an action's invincibility/guard frames/mobility, etc.

You'll find ways to naturally link various attacks and PAs together as you play. For example, when I play Gunner, using Grim Barrage puts me in a perfect position to follow up with Bullet Hail and land all hits including the initial kick.

But you can only have 4 skills on your bar at any given time really (if you have a spot for basic attack and a spot for guarding), how do you pick which four to use?

EDIT: I think my problem is that I've hardly even touched Photon Arts because I can just spam the Wired Lances basic attack (on groups of enemies, sword on single targets) and everything dies so quickly. So I'm level 30 and I feel like I've used PAs less than a handful of times because I really don't even need to.

The ones you like or feel work together well (eg, if you sub fighter and make use of Tech Arts JA Combo you probably want stuff that flows together well).

Also you can put the same weapon on your bar more than once, with different PA loadouts for different stuff

You can have multiple instances of the same weapon on your palette with different PA loadouts, and swap between them out or in combat.

The real answer is to wait for Sacrifice Bite 0 for extra reach. Also building focus shortens charge PAs to the point that they're near instant. Sonic arrow helps build focus ultra quick and having the hunter focus ring really helps in keeping that focus. You could also just wait for the enemy to attack you, perfect guard them and beat them senseless. That's what I do at least.

Setup 3 button mode! That'll give you 3/6 buttons on the mouse and you can assign skills to the palette just like items.

Get used to spamming your photon arts, especially if you run fighter sub which can give you a dmg stat boost for being under 50% PP.

I'm using 3 button mode on controller, and it is sooo much better than when I was using 2 button mode. On an Xbox controller, I have X as basic attack, Y is my main movement PA, R bumper is weapon action, and I hold down left trigger to get 3 more PAs on X, Y, and R bumper. I had to get used to clicking the right stick to activate stuff from my sub-bar, but it's really not bad at all as a bouncer.

I think the real catcher, and this is even coming from someone with experience on JP, is that most PAs and Techs are really, really hard to work out what they do or how they work, even with the descriptions. While I know one could just grab everything you have and go into, like basic Forest 101 and practice things there, I think a training dummy that can take more than one hit or a similar kind of 'mission' would go a long way towards figuring out how stuff works without having to run around and wait for enemies that'll die in one hit to spawn in.

Granted, when you DO find the abilities that click for you, holy poo poo do they click. But some easier way to experiment would be very welcome.

Are you also still trying to figure out how to delete the temp install files in X:\WindowsApps\MSIXVC ?

Mine's 144GB (68GB Halo:MCC*, 38GB I think to Metro: Exodus, some others) and I don't have access to delete. Plus multiple random forum comments made it sound like forcing access privilege to my account will gently caress something else up in a short amount of time.

E: Well that's interesting. You can easily delete the files that are left behind from uninstalled games. The 68GB is all of the H:MCC data and the 38GB was actually Outer Worlds (and deleted without complaint). However there's an 11GB file that's PSO2, a 10GB PSO2 folder, and the 68GB PSO2bin folder elsewhere.

There is a target dummy, but I'm not sure how to access it. I think it's in the same thing as the practice quests for your class. I don't think you can do variant action off of Techs for jet boots. What it's probably trying to get at is that one of your higher DPS PA options drains your entire focus, element and all, so you'll need to weave a Tech in there to get the element back before doing it again.

Edit: I found it. The quest has two mode, a 20 second DPS check and a free mode where you can just hit an infinite health Rockbear. It's under Practice Quests and it's "Damage Calculation Practice."

I wonder what the most/least popular classes are. I’m playing Force and loving it but all the other classes seem to be .. uh ... well, funner and more actiony. I’m sure a lot of people sleep on Force because it’s slower and far more deliberate than even Hunter. But I’m a sucker for magic and love dropping meteors on dorks for absurd numbers.

I just love slaying dudes goddamn. Braver is a very fast and fun class, and has some VERY big numbers but it also is a lot more engaging. I’m enjoying Ranger as my “smoke a bowl, drink some beer, make numbers get big” experience, but Force and Braver are up there man.

I really need to start playing with goons, I solo everything so much I don’t know why. Would it be advised to play with goons before VHAQs or is the experience so disjointed before that funnel that most folks are either doing random poo poo OR VHAQ/SHAQs?

I saw a few guides saying it needs three charges to be most optimal but when I go to use it, it only “dings” twice and then will kind of buzz infinitely. I can only assume it’s two and not three charges unless just activating it prior to ding 1 is “one charge” ?

For gap closer on the launcher I picked up rocket rodeo- is there anyway to cancel the little circle circuit at the end? Driving forward then doing a circle makes me just as slow as moving. My friend on force is flying around with lightning like a Sith and my ranger is slow as hell

I'm also super unclear on how exactly to jet boots optimally. Every other class seems to have pretty straightforward rotations, but jet boots adding techniques to the list makes them complicated. What techs do they even use? Right now I mostly just toss on the same boots five times on my list with the most basic spell of each element besides dark on it due to not knowing if there's a better alternative.

On the other hand Soaring Blades are "haha blades go pew pew"

If you're fighting something that actually needs more than a few actions to kill, it's generally Grand Wave (jet kick) in -> variant to cast deband -> GW back in -> Strike Gust (somersault) -> variant to cast Shifta -> if multiple targets, Surging Gale (screen jet) + variant (tornado) until out of PP, then melee to get PP back OR if single target/focusing on one breakable, basic Grand Wave to max bar -> apply relevant elemental imbue at max bar -> Jetsweep Kick + variant (to actually kick) to dump bar on vulnerable point, melee to get PP back as necessary, recast Deband and Shifta as necessary.

Naturally there's also positioning and whatnot to consider, but that's the general idea. In a lot of non-huge-boss scenarios, it'll mostly be keeping Shifta up and then smashing the Surging Gale button + Variant button as hard as possible.

Infinity Gaia

Note that emptying your jet boots focus bar will cause you to lose your element imbue (a later update changes it so this doesn't happen). Since Jetsweep Kick dumps the bar you'll want to apply element again after so you get the benefit of Elemental Stance.

Also when doing your normal attack chain, make sure you're Perfect Attacking with it (i.e. timing each step of the attack chain such that you do it when the red ring shows up) as there are skills that increase your damage on PAs.

By the way, how DOES element imbue work exactly? As in, how does it interact with a weapons native element? Does it merely swap elements or does it add a boost or alteration on top of it? Like, say I'm using light element boots and fighting against an enemy weak to light. Do I get any extra bonus from charging my boots with Grants or am I good to just start kicking?

General question, but where is NA in relation to the JP version in terms of balance changes? Obviously we're missing content (PA crafting, complex PAs, a ton of skill rings, etc.), but are the PA/weapon stats in line with how they are in JP right now or are we just multiple patches behind and we'll gradually be caught up even if it means getting changes in a patch that JP later iterated on?
