That's not very impressive. Kind of condescending even to make the fact that an elderly person can play an instrument into some breaking news.

Oh, come on. It's not that they "can play an instrument", it's that they can play it drat well, and evidently haven't lost finger dexterity despite their age. Those runs down the scale are faster and more cleaner than me, and I'd be about half his age.

It's well enough, but let's just say nobody would have posted that if he was 40. The dude's probably been playing for over 50 years now, of course he can play well. What did people expect? Ritchie Blackmore is 75, for God's sake, and he's still doing shows.

It's the reverse of that teenage girl who did the rounds on social media for being able to play Through the Fire and the Flames. It's impressive to be able to do a thing when you're at the end of the curvd

He's most likely been playing guitar his entire life and pretty well for most of it so that fact that the tendons and ligaments in his hands haven't turned to stone is pretty fuckin impressive yes.

Ritchie Blackmore is still doing shows at 75? Dude, that's loving phenomenal! Good on him! Like... that's not physically easy to do. Of course you can have a lifetime of musical knowledge and "muscle memory", but the human body's mechanical abilities degrade with age. Still being able to shred despite that is very blessed.

Good one :D. Though you might want to get rid of that thing, given the privacy abuses and general fuckery of Amazon in general and Ring in particular. I found a summary at https://www.vox.com/2019/9/5/20849846/amazon-ring-explainer-video-doorbell-hacks, which does seem pretty biased; I can find a better source when I'm less sauced.

Bleak Gremlin
Lithuanian Government, 1994: we're a democratic nation now, we promise! If you ask for something to test your newfound freedoms, we'll agree to it!

Lithuanian Frank Zappa Fanclub: let's see how *free* we really are

Lithuanian Government, 1994: Umm, I dunno, Frank Zappa doesn't really have any connection to Lithuania...

Lithuanian Frank Zappa Fanclub: Well, ahh, we've been pretty big on promoting our Jewish History recently, and Frank Zappa looks kinda Jewish?

Lithuanian Government, 1994: gently caress it, good enough for us. Military band and fireworks display OK?

quote:

Lithuanian photographer Saulius Paukstys briefly met Zappa after a 1992 concert in California

The small artist Republic of Uzupis wanted to commemorate their patron saint, but Paukstys, as president of the Frank Zappa fan club, saw it as an opportunity to assert truly democratic independence in the new era. If the government would allow them to erect a statue of the man who sang “The Illinois Enema Bandit,” it would truly be a sign of a new era.

Though the fan club gathered signatures, approvals, and funds for the Zappa memorial, authorities were suspicious. Why should Vilnius have a statue of someone with no connection to the city, particularly someone with such antiestablishment messages? A member of the fan club pointed out that Zappa had vaguely Jewish features, and as the government was very big on promoting Jewish history at the time, that was reason enough.

A bust of Frank Zappa was sculpted by 70-year-old Konstantinas Bogdanas, the same artist who made the statues of communist heroes that dotted the city so many years before. The bust, along with a psychedelic mural behind it, were unveiled in 1995. The Vilnius military band performed various Zappa singles at the ceremony, which ended with a fireworks display.

Following the memorial, Zappa’s popularity has only increased in Lithuania. The fan club is still accepting members, and a Zappa Love Letter Club functioned as a bohemian dating service for a while.
