Unfortunately it's also kind of a tenuous argument, since Mayor Bowser isn't the owner of the hotels, and the 3A specifically provides for the owner consenting to the quartering. If the hotel owners are OK with it, the troops can stay. OTOH it's no more of an asspull than all the bullshit they've come up with for the 2A over the years.

Also, most Finns below 50 years speak at least some sort of English.

I don't know if I'm disappointed or inspired by the fact that after these cases of police brutality over the last decade+, after the protests and the crackdowns, we don't hear how the officers involved in the inciting incident (and the ones identified commiting acts of violence against protesters) end up killed. Either everyone else is a better person than me for not even thinking that or it's just a matter of time. I don't know, it's too early and I'm too hungover to be this depressed and pissed off. Typical 2020 day.

There’s still a sizable gap between “military leaders disagreeing with president on an issue” to “other elements of the government act in concert to remove an elected president.” Of course, maybe one of the reasons the brass didn’t want to use the military en masse was because they didn’t want to test whether troops would obey an order to fire into a crowd or something.

Our current brass has put a lot of work into bridging the gap between the demographics of the military and civil society. Mattis in particular wrote a lot about the civil-military divide, but I've seen the discussion a lot at the Air Force level too. A pessimist might claim that it's mainly for recruiting purposes, but it also makes chuds angry every time we announce a new diversity hiring initiative, which is sort of a side benefit. Following that line of thought, I think the brass is probably aware of the lasting damage this could cause and is trying desperately to avoid the optics of the military versus the people. Or maybe they've actually read the Constitution, idk.

Alright before you go at each others throats let me clarify: I may often dislike Chichevache (or his opinions, whatever), but I've definitely grown accustomed to seeing him around and his absence is noted even by me, and that is oddly worrying in this sub more than most. There's at least once poster I liked that I haven't seen in months and it really bums me out and I hope they're okay. In any case, I'd rather he kramer in here with some rear end in a top hat opinion so we can yell at him than not. I still think he's an rear end in a top hat.
