On the contrary, I hope they leave Character Tendency and World Tendency intact, because that poo poo was hilariously opaque, and it adds some depth for completionists. It'd be hard to cut it completely because they'd need to cut some content, as well.

I suppose they could add a mechanic like ringing the bell from Sekiro to induce world tendency, which would then unlock the various quests tied to it. The original release would occasionally do Pure White and Pure Black tendency events, which was a good way to see the content locked behind tendency without having to manipulate it in-game.

Assuming Blue Point is doing it, I doubt they'll change the mechanics. They generally try to be as true to the originals as possible in their remasters / remakes.

If they keep World tendency I hope they swap it so that dying makes levels easier, rather than harder. The original system just punished newer players for no reason.

Also the online world tendency stuff was awful since it made it near impossible to get to pure black or white without going offline.

IDK, it only potentially made it harder if you died in human form. From a design perspective, it makes sense because you're forcing the player to make a risk / reward calculation. If you want the benefits of human form (more health, the ability to summon help), you had to accept some trade-offs (the possibility of invasions, world tendency moving towards black if you die). Plus reviving to human form generally freed up a ring slot, since most players opt to use cling ring in their first play-through.

I think the devs generally intended for players to use human form pretty sparingly.

I saw Bloodborne trending on Twitter because of the PC/PS5 remaster but why do they need to remaster a PS4 game if the PS5 is backwards compatible? Is there actually something to Sony removing the BC text from their website? I forget the page now but someone did a before/after comparison showing what was removed which sparked the talk of troubles with the feature.

If Bloodborne is indeed coming to PC and Steam I hope they don't tamper with it too much because Dark Souls 3 runs amazingly well on really weak hardware and Bloodborne looks stunning enough that I'd settle for just the framepacing fix and getting to run it at 60fps.

Utterly bizarre news if true however since the source says Sony's going in harder on PC gaming but I'm more confused about what's happening with backwards compatibility. I guess they realized all the PS3 remasters this gen were so profitable they'd prefer to keep re-selling games instead?

Backward compatibility is kind of complex, and will likely take work on each individual game to make it work properly (think how Microsoft is handling backcompat on the Xbone). Sony still hasn't announced how it will work, but you can be almost certain that it won't be as simple as running your entire PS4 library on the PS5 out of the gate. And if they're going to port BB to PC anyway, they might as well do a full remaster with upgraded assets and the ability to run at 60FPS. BB ties a ton of gameplay-related functions to framerate, so a fairly significant amount of work would need to be done to it to make it run at 60FPS without any bugs. A patch could do this, but FROM hasn't shown any interest in patching it even for the PS4 Pro, so I can't imagine they're interested in doing the work to make it run at 60FPS on the PS5.

A remastered version that fixes the long load times, upgrades some assets, bumps up the resolution, and gets it running at 60FPS makes more sense, particularly if they are going to do the same work for PC anyway.

I'm just thinking of Dark Souls 3 on PC since it uses the same engine so theoretically a port would already have the supposed fixes needed? Seems bizarre that those fixes wouldn't just be applied via patch but maybe they'll do something special and add extra/cut content? Apparently the company doing the port is the one that did the Dark Souls 1 remaster and are apparently good at what they do but it still seems unusual.

The fixes could definitely be applied via patch, I just don't think there's enough financial incentive to do it. A PC / PS5 re-release a la Scholar of the First Sin would sell really well, though. Market it as a 4K / 60FPS game, include the DLC, list it for $40, and watch the money roll in.

If you look at the current generation, a bunch of Xbox 360 games were rendered backwards compatible on Xbox One, and then at a later point the game got a native Xbox One (and PS4) version. For example, Saints Row The Third has been playable on Xbox One in its 360 iteration for some time, with that version’s limitations, and just a few weeks ago got the native Xbox One version. It’s not impossible that some games will have their PS4 version work on PS5 while also having a separate PS5-only version that leverages the console’s power. So, for example, it runs PS4 Bloodborne at the same 30fps and maybe even only does 1080p, while the PS5 version is 4K60 locked with better graphics (eg higher resolution textures) and maybe some tweaking due to no more load times (instant travel etc).

I did see some interesting justification for a remaster that I hadn't considered, which is that FromSoft consider it one of their favorite games to have made but would change some things if they could. Besides the obvious framepacing issues and blood vials/chunks I think the big one is the ability to re-spec your character, which would be a really good addition. There's great builds in the game that not many people got to experience so maybe there will be some QOL updates?

Yeah I loved that too although I was one of the folks who wasn't a big fan of the 3rd act. I feel like the 2nd act ending was perfect and the game was long enough. Glad that the 3rd act exists for those that wanted more though!

Hell yeah

And like, I get the "trinket tax" argument or whatever, but the answer isn't to stop letting people explore. Just design your game so that exploring gives you an advantage, rather than designing it with the expectation that everyone will find that weapon you hid.

I don’t get how people want more of the brawler style combat when there’s already 8+ games including Judgment to play, and also it’s not ever really tweaked that much from game to game.

I mean I definitely don't feel like it was that way in DQ11. If you missed a weapon or item out in the world or dungeons you could usually just buy it in the next town or whatever.

And it's one of the few times I've enjoyed a crafting system in a game due to the fact that made it into a fun little mini game rather than just have the only "gameplay" aspect of it be mindlessly gathering until you have 'x' things. It was fun to try and see how much above your weight class you could craft with lucky strikes and what not.

oh most definitely, it hits a real good sweet spot in being player-involved without being so in-depth that it feels more like work than a game
