Wait, GT started releasing stuff after 2007? Is that correct? Cuz that’s not anywhere near OG, Bootie and lots of others were around in the early 2000s. I don’t know the earliest MUYB, but even GYBO was around before that, I think.

Like I would consider Party Ben, A+D, DJ John, DJ Schmolli (Maybe Mash-Up Germany?) and that group as the first ones I remember. Oh and the Kleptones were the early giants (A Night at the Hip Hopera in ‘04), and of course things like the Gray Album (‘04). DJ BC was running Mash Ave in Boston in ‘04 and continues to produce. Loo & Placido were in there a little later, I think? But their NRG mixes from France were pretty great, as I recall.

I may have to jump down the rabbit hole of the earliest stuff I have to see when all that was (had to look up a bunch of this).

Edit: oh and GHP since 2002, proper OG.

Haha poo poo, I just browsed back in my library a bit and I keep saying “oh poo poo, yeah!” Lots of producers from way back (that’s as clear as the chronology is in my head, anyway).

Funny that this is the only post in the whole discussion of greats that (to me) really went back (and people have had MONTHS to reply!). DJ Q-BERT was known for his scratching but the tracks he cut for Demolition Pumpkin Squeeze Music blew my mind in the 90s, then Z-TRIP and 2 Many DJs in the 00s. Another all time fave from that era is No Fakin Crew's Give an Example.

Girl Talk's Night Ripper was the first mashup album that really grabbed me, especially as a full album instead of individual song remixes, and that was released spring of 2006. So about mid-decade.

the best music game devs in the world have clearly been reading this thread. I've been a Harmonix fan since the original Guitar Hero on PS2 and this is clearly an attempt to wring something more successful out of the weird card/app game they made (that I got on sale and enjoy on rare occasions since it's a little cumbersome to use), but honestly if they have as much DLC support for Fuser as they have had for Rock Band (that's been going over a decade, aside from the year or so break between gens) this could be really amazing and bring a lot of good content. There's already a good mix in there from what I can tell.

I’ll buy this because I dig Harmonix but I can’t imagine it will have a very extensive DLC suite. DJ Hero released pretty close to the rhythm game craze and barely got any DLC.

It would be great if it sells well enough to warrant at least some. 100+ songs is a good start but I’m already groaning at half of the tracks announced.

especially because they all went exclusive to different retailers including TRU who no longer exists, and finding them on amazon was a bitch and a half
