RWBY is great because it starts with a dude named Oz and his partner Glynda Goodwitch running a school where they train Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Belle from Beauty and the Beast, and Goldilocks to fight the Grimm.

Just the best.

The most endearing part of RWBY to me is that in world full of people dressed like anime fashion disasters there is one dude in the show who wears a pair of jeans and some Chucks.

At least for the first few seasons.

Yeah it's extremely depressing. At the height of my interest in TGWTG the two creators I most enjoyed were Spoony and Brad, so it's such a goddamn shame that the former burned out a depressed husk and the latter turned into the type of ghoul he used to openly mock. :smith:

I, like Brad, am originally from bumfuck nowhere Illinois which is white, poor, religious, insular, and very conservative. Both my parents were the first college educated individuals in their respective families and recognized how toxic an environment they were in and bailed before myself or my sister could be poisoned by it. I say this because even when I was a dumbass HS student I remember Brad would have his rear end in a top hat friends on and I'd think "oh god I knew so many people like that" and I always kinda felt like Brad fell victim to a combo of midwestern politeness/conflict avoidance, and being surrounded by CHUD assholes. It sucks and is also really scary because I realize that could have been me had I been in ever so slightly less fortunate and privileged circumstances growing up.

Anything remotely sexual gets smacked with an R18+ rating because the review panel's staffed by uptight christian conservatives who hate that the R18 rating for games was forced into existence and they can't arbitrarily ban stuff anymore.

Or, more to the point, assholes circle the wagons when called out. At a certain point, people cross a line of shittiness where your only choice is to cut ties or join them in driving everyone else away.

You might not have been a complete rear end in a top hat before that choice, but if you pick the latter path you sure as poo poo become one.

As a general rule, I feel pretty comfortable saying that people who are very into exploitation and horror films are either really cool or EXTREMELY not cool, with very little ground in between. I call it the Elvira/Joe Bob dichotomy.

I started wondering about Brad when he started featuring the college student he was dating for a while in his videos. He was about 40 at the time.
