Who are the current cool guitarists and guitar-based bands right now? I recently found Melanie Faye and she’s great, and I know Mac DeMarco and Khruangbin are really popular. Who else is cool right now? Franchescanado fucked around with this message at 19:03 on Jun 11, 2020 |

So I'd heard Tame Impala off-shoot Pond, but apparently there's another one, a solo project by Jay Watson called Gum. New album came out today and the first song has me hooked: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMz1AUUkcsU

Phoebe Bridgers dropped her new album two days early. About halfway into it so far. Chinese Satellite is so so so gorgeous. Gotta be one of my favorite songs of hers. EDIT: First listen - SUPER solid. I Know The End is an incredible loving closer Thom and the Heads fucked around with this message at 14:53 on Jun 18, 2020 |

I just finished and really enjoyed the album although I can see her getting dinged for not really evolving her sound from the previous album. I also feel like a few of the songs end abruptly when I would of liked the instrumentals to carry on a bit longer especially on the tracks with a fuller sound which are quite beautiful. The real star in these songs though is the lyrics. They are so fun and descriptive. Agree with you on Chinese Satellite and I Know the End. They both build so beautifully. Edit: Ive had I Know the End on repeat all morning. Absolutely love it. It reminds me a bit of old school Sufjan when the horns kick in. Not really sure what was going on at Spotify, but they uploaded Built to Spill's Keep it Like a Secret a few months ago, and it was greyed out in Canada. Not sure if it was like that for every country. I just noticed today that it's finally available to listen. This is a good day.

I love the Phoebe Bridgers ouvre. Probably listened to SITA a million times and I learned how to play Scott Street. Punisher didn't really grab me It kind of reminds me of a Grouper or Enya album. The vocals were the star and the music just kind of rumbling off in the distance somewhere and indistinct on lot of the tracks. Like, Kyoto is probably my favorite thus far and it's probably because it has a distinct beat and the instrument has more equal footing to the vocals. It'll probably grow on me as time goes on. Music has to hit me in the right way at the right time.
