I thought The Suburbs was their weakest album when it came out but after running to it a few times it became probably their best for me overall. They probably will never release anything amazing again tbh.

Who are the current cool guitarists and guitar-based bands right now?

I recently found Melanie Faye and she’s great, and I know Mac DeMarco and Khruangbin are really popular. Who else is cool right now?

Do you mean virtuosic or just anyone guitar based because if it's the latter there are tons.

This sucks - https://www.wsmv.com/news/survey-says-90-percent-of-music-venues-wont-survive-pandemic/article_b0c20690-ac5d-11ea-a369-1bba6b91f4f5.html

quote:

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) - In a staggering statistic by the National Independent Venue Association, 90 percent of American music venues won't make it through the pandemic, unless they receive more federal funding.

"In February, it was all we were thinking about and talking about," Chris Cobb, owner of of the nearly 50-year-old Exit/In, said, "was how to celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of the most historic rock clubs in the country. And now everyday is ‘well, are we going to be able to get there?’"

Cobb, in many ways, is leading the fight. Not only to keep his own venue afloat, but music houses across Nashville.

"Now it’s more sad, because we’re starting to see it actually happen," he said.
The pandemic hit small business hard, but no one quite as hard as the industry that was largely forced to close first, and will open last.

"We can’t package and to-go what we do. You can’t sell a concert to-go," Cobb explained.

NIVA conducted a survey that concluded the current federal small business loan will not solve the crisis.

"Exit/In is running at about 5% from a revenue standpoint," Cobb said. "We’ve lost 95% of our revenue."

So, venue owners across the country came together to ask their federal and local governments for more funding, and to ask their patrons to join the fight.
"Go buy some [merchandise]. It’s the only way that many of us have to generate any kind of revenue at all right now," Cobb said. "It’s starting. We’ve been talking about it and saying it was coming, and it’s starting to get here, and it’s really sad."

For more information on how to help Nashville's music venues visit nivassoc.org or search #SaveOurStages.

Phoebe Bridgers dropped her new album two days early. About halfway into it so far. Chinese Satellite is so so so gorgeous. Gotta be one of my favorite songs of hers.

EDIT: First listen - SUPER solid. I Know The End is an incredible loving closer

I just finished and really enjoyed the album although I can see her getting dinged for not really evolving her sound from the previous album. I also feel like a few of the songs end abruptly when I would of liked the instrumentals to carry on a bit longer especially on the tracks with a fuller sound which are quite beautiful. The real star in these songs though is the lyrics. They are so fun and descriptive.

Agree with you on Chinese Satellite and I Know the End. They both build so beautifully.

Edit: Ive had I Know the End on repeat all morning. Absolutely love it. It reminds me a bit of old school Sufjan when the horns kick in.

Not really sure what was going on at Spotify, but they uploaded Built to Spill's Keep it Like a Secret a few months ago, and it was greyed out in Canada. Not sure if it was like that for every country. I just noticed today that it's finally available to listen.

I love the Phoebe Bridgers ouvre. Probably listened to SITA a million times and I learned how to play Scott Street.

Punisher didn't really grab me :(

It kind of reminds me of a Grouper or Enya album. The vocals were the star and the music just kind of rumbling off in the distance somewhere and indistinct on lot of the tracks. Like, Kyoto is probably my favorite thus far and it's probably because it has a distinct beat and the instrument has more equal footing to the vocals.

It'll probably grow on me as time goes on. Music has to hit me in the right way at the right time.
