The sound does improve, but is still low. It's very clearly a secondary setup given their initial idea was to get together and do it in person with guests in a fixed location, they talk a little in the first episode about how they kinda wanted to put it off when COVID happened but they already had sponsors lined up plus they needed to do something to keep from going insane. Last episode, Imperioli brings up a crazy fan theory about Tony dying in the assassintion attempt in Isabella back in season 1, and the rest of the show being Tony's mind pulling a Jacob's Ladder type hallucination. Schirripa loses his poo poo and starts railing about douchebags who weren't involved in the show but write a million words about it on the Internet and I thought,"Geez, Bobby, you didn't have to tell it like it is "

I've never produced a piece of art like the Sopranos but I'd be pleased as poo poo if people were writing millions of words about my show on the internet, even if their theories were off base compared to what I had envisioned.

To be fair I'm pretty sure he was more venting about people who try to tell him what the show he was on was REALLY about, especially if it's crazy batshit out there bullshit like "Tony died in season 1 and the whole thing was a dream!" Michael Imperioli really seems to enjoy getting him fired up though, he said he was gonna invite a bunch of those people on for a roundtable discussion on the show

Yeah I don't think he was talking about guys like you, Jerusalem. I've poked around a few fan boards and they all pretty much suck. EDIT: Found several podcasts on The Wire. Anyone know which ones are any good? BiggerBoat fucked around with this message at 11:46 on Jun 19, 2020 |

They're probably palling around on a regular basis for 2 decades now and know how to rile each other over the petty stuff for fun. Aside from Edie Falco I feel like those two are the few from the cast still regularly working. Schirripa went from Sopranos to main cast for a ABC family drama and is in a handful of things every year. It's crazy to think in the show they were kind of presented like a different generation of mob guys when the actors are only 8 years apart.

Pastore has a regular Sirius (I think) DJ gig that's produced by Van Zandt, who did have that series that I never watched. I think some of them like Sirico and Adler are old enough to be semi-retired from acting now.

I just gotta say that people didn’t go hard enough trying to sell Jerusalem on continuing with The Leftovers. Season 2 is essentially a soft reboot and it and 3 are imo a big improvement on season 1. It’s one only a few dramas I would put up there with Sopranos. Just exquisite television.

After the first season of The Leftovers my opinion was "I really like that show, despite its issues; 'The Garveys at Their Best' is one of the best episodes of any HBO show;" but just a few episodes into Season 2 I had moved into full "Holy poo poo, why isn't this the only show people are talking about?" mode. Season 3 was a little uneven but still pretty great. Absolutely stellar finale; the very last scene is just beautifully written and performed. Looking back, Jerusalem's issue was that they loathed all of the characters and...I dunno, it's not like that gets much better as the series goes on? Despite the global-level inciting incident, it's a pretty small show about a group of people struggling to deal with shared grief and collective PTSD. Characters are rarely acting rationally and make selfish, sometimes cruel decisions. I at least found them to be sympathetically flawed.

Yeah, a show like Sopranos is full of disgusting human beings but they're written in a very realistic and often endearing way, which in turn creates a wonderful sense of tension about genuinely liking some frankly quite revolting people. With The Leftovers, I found nothing endearing or, I guess, "human" about the characters. They were just all nasty, scheming, monstrous assholes who spent all their time being miserable and lying to each other and then getting mad at people for calling them out. Plus they did one of my least favorite things in media, where a crazy/evil character turns out to have been telling the truth and tears into the "good guy" for not believing them, despite the fact they were saying and doing crazy/evil things every single time they were on screen. The only character I liked in that show was Christopher Eccleston's fallen priest, and the episode that focused on him was really good. That wasn't enough to offset just how much I detested everybody else though.

There just isn't anything else like this thread anywhere on the web. Reddit has a couple of threads for each episode but with their bullshit system its just highly upvoted stuff plus its impossible to find and search easily. They also seem allergic to critical analysis in many ways and everything has a pretty small word limit. This needs some sort of permanent archiving.

I have text based back-ups of all the episode write-ups, but what really makes these threads work in my opinion is all the discussion that comes out of it, both analysis but also jokes and fun discussion that crops up around sometimes the silliest, smallest things. Not sure if anybody else is doing it, but I'll be looking at trying to archive the thread itself for my own personal enjoyment, while hoping that we don't end up losing SA out of this whole current Lowtax mess. Talking about Sopranos with you guys has been an absolute blast.

God drat. This is my favorite website by miles but gently caress... Can I trust myself to like anything or anyone anymore? So troubling how often this happens. Next thing I'll learn is that Michael Imperioli or Gandolfini were regular passengers on Epstein's plane or David Chase had a casting couch. Some of this poo poo makes the real life monster actors seem almost quaint. Does everyone just loving suck? I SUCK, but only in as much as I'm a lovely poster with bad opinions, chain smoke, drink too much, am often sullen and look at too much porn. I don't hit people. Someone should just buy the domain from Lowtax and run it right. Should be easy. Goony as it is, this place usually has a higher level of discourse, reliable information, better writing and tolerable interaction than Reddit, FB, Twitter and all that other garbage and posters usually put some god damned effort into the things they write (See: Jerusalem)

Edie Falco was on the latest Talkin' Sopranos. Unsurprisingly, she's a good guest! She said one episode that stands out as something magical to her is Isabella. She's just enraptured by the thought that part of Tony's initial attraction to the idealized woman was paying off some dim early childhood memory of lovingly watching Livia hang out the washing on the line, long before things turned bitter between them.

My one issue with Talking Sopranos is the guests only stay for like 10min and then they leave. I wish they would just stay for the entire thing. Each show is only about an hour it's not like a huge commitment esp during covid. Ok 2 issues..... these friggin Bose ad breaks are painful. Hopefully next season Bose just tosses them a premade ad to play that we can adblock. "These Bose headphones are fuckin great. You can uh do all your phone calls and computin poo poo with em." Oh Bobby never change
