Was that a name change thread thing in SAS or just a group a reregs who had a goofy idea? I never read SAS FWIW.

Time is counted in seconds since Jan 1 1970 on Unix systems. That's why there's a year 2038 problem on 32 bit systems. You run out of bits to store the time.
