Yes, in a perfect world, we could pick and choose our alliances and causes with the utmost purity. But we're not in a perfect world, we're in this one, and in this world, the menace of French Fascism is vaster by an order of magnitude than a liberal democracy that at least pays some lip service to the rights of its people. If the NGF falls to fascism we're not only going to be facing a united fascist front across most of Europe, we're also going to be sowing the seeds of distrust and mutual disdain in Germany's people. If, by some miracle, we win against such a united fascist front, what will we say when the German citizen asks us "Where were you when fascism threatened us?" Will we be able to look the Germans in the eye when they say "Yes, you have helped liberate us now - but that does no good for my brother, who was killed by the fascists?" What salve could we offer them when they tell us of all the atrocities of fascism that were inflicted upon their spouses, their parents, their children? Will they consider us to be their friends and comrades in such an event? And to the converse point, if we do intervene, even if we are not successful we will have built up comradeship and friendship in Germany's people, both those already aligned with our politics and those who do not but do oppose the fascists. It will show that we are good to our principles, and if we lack principles, what have we? Lest we also forget, few if any of us in the Red Rose Pact itself are perfect and without blemish. For how long did we quietly tolerate the British colonial project in the Congo for political expediency? To focus on the Meier regime overlooks the great mass of German people, most of whom are honest and hardworking proletarians, people who we could help and who we could never forsake in the face of fascist aggression. e; (I like to imagine I'm standing up in the Ekklesia after it's long since become obvious that that august body already supports my position, but I'm a politician damnit, I'm going to get it on record that I had Reckons!  )

So you've probably noticed the announcement that's at the top of every forum, but if you haven't, you probably should. (Content warning for discussion of domestic abuse) Hopefully Lowtax is just ejected from this community and things go on as normal, but in the event Lowtax stays on the forums, byzLP won't. The threads are being archived, so we aren't going to burn down the library of Alexandria or whatever, but it's possible we'll need to find a new long-term home for this story and the people who've been invested in it for years. Since the market for gay and extremely verbose screenshot let's plays of mapgames isn't exactly booming these days, I'm not sure what that place would be, so if anyone's got any suggestions... Anyway! I'll keep y'all posted. In the event the forums just shut down abruptly, I'll put any new information on my twitter-- following it might be a good idea in case Lowtax just nukes the whole forums the moment he wakes up or whatever. Um, I hope you like seeing retweets of Fire Emblem femslash, I guess? Which is kind of on-brand for ByzLP, I guess.

You could continue the LP over on Bread & Roses, it's a forum started by a bunch of people from CSPAM and it has a LP subforum. Edit: Registration is free but there is also a 10 dollar paywall. Bread and Roses seems like it could be a good option! Another link I'll throw out in the interim is the Goon Paradox LP Discord, which already has a lot of overlap with this thread, and is probably a good place to find out what the deal is if/when SA finally, fatally implodes without having to also read dozens of twitter posts about how Edelgard did nothing wrong, or whatever. I just hope we can reach a consensus on where things go so the subforum doesn't splinter and die out from dilution. Been on this website for years only to read LPs and I barely understand who Lowtax is and what he does around here, if anything. I wouldn't have even noticed all this if threads hadn't started pointing out. I certainly won't shed a tear if he's excised from the forums.

I don't think anyone will-he burned any goodwill he had for creating the site years ago. The issue, as far as I can tell, is that he is the sole owner. If he nukes the site out of spite or even just refuses to leave there isn't much that can be done about it.

Who knows what the future will hold, but I've put up a quick-and-dirty mirror of the whole LP on my own hosting. Even if SA doesn't explode, this was probably still worth making so you don't need Archives to go read the original thread.
