site posted:umbrella chronicles' meta story is basically wesker lounging around like a super villain reminiscing about what he was doing during every game in the series that got him to his dr doom throne I loved UC, it was basically a tour through the core games with some additional lore and scenarios to fill in the blanks, and like you said an excuse for wesker to narrate stuff. It also finally featured the characters actually going to Umbrella HQ to take them down once and for all, like they always talk about at the end of each game. I liked that it was basically a survival rail shooter hybrid. You still had to manage ammo and health, and focus more on precision than scattershot aiming. Really dug all the collectible files hidden in the levels, and the weapon upgrade system, it added tons of replayability. I would gladly snap up a modern port of it and dark side chronicles. I know it got a PS3 version but throw that poo poo on Switch or Steam or something.

The best thing about UC Wesker was this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xa2hVHT5AWU It was also when DC Dougals took over the role of the character from Richard Waugh. Made a lot of people unhappy since his iconic "Evil Brit" accent introduced in CV and then continued in 0 and 4 was dropped for Douglas just (poorly) imitating Waugh. But he just did his own voice for RE5 which I guess is now the voice everyone associates with Albert.

They're on PSNow, but they don't have Move support. What's the loving point of those games if you can't use a Move controller? There's no way anyone will want to play them with a regular-rear end controller.

I just noticed the RE2 Remake is pretty cheap in the steam summer sale and got to thinking about getting it on PC after having so much fun with as Big Jill in RE3. A quick look around shows the mods are sadly centered mostly around various Make Claire Sexier options, but then I remembered this one exists and I'm dangerously close to throwing out my right here and now

Oh yeah, I think it's worth full price, the only thing holding me back was that I've beat it multiple times on PS4. But then I remembered I used store credit to get it on there, and well, I bought it again

I was playing Resident Evil 4, and I broke open a box that had a snake in it. I was swinging my knife to make sure that I killed it, and when I did, it dropped an egg. I then hit the egg with my knife and destroyed it. I've been playing this game since it came out and never knew you could break the eggs. And Wesker was totally in space. Nothing can change my mind on that.

I mean,RE Science is pretty damned advanced beyond real life tech. Wesker could have easily gone to space and gotten back in no time with some future tech Unbrella developed so they could use it to make stupid bioweapons. Seriously, back to Umbrella Chronicles. The main villain has a bunch of perfect clones of himself. Umbrella perfected human cloning in the 90s. Why? Because the human-to-Tyrant rate is something like 1/100,000 so you might be wondering how Umbrella had a half-dozen Mr. X's, Nemesis, and around 4 or 5 other numbered Tyrants in addition to a literal Tyrant factory in Survivor. Well, the answer is that Sergei Vladimir (Capcom couldn't be bothered to looking up a Russian surname) was one of the Tyrant compatible humans so somebody at Umbrella had the bright idea of just perfecting human cloning so they can make loads of Sergei clones to turn into Tyrants. Umbrella also perfected a thinking, living AI. The number of inventions Umbrella made to push its lovely viral research is quite astounding.

The great thing about Wesker is you can add him to any outlandish scenario and you can just shrug and accept that it's a thing he'd do.

I remember being very confused why Wesker hated Chris so much, as I'd only played the original RE as Jill. Chris was apparently so insufferable the mere act of waiting in a prison cell was enough to provoke a life long hatred.

Even if you played Chris Chris didn't actually do anything to him really. Wesker just decided he hates Chris and so here we go.

On the other hand, everyone else also hates Chris, especially the players. So who can blame him?

I honestly think my liking of Chris comes from when I was a kid, he was the cool guy fighting zombies (he smoked! Badass!) and that my brother's name was Chris. He's kind of a nothing character, really, but I still like him.

The most interesting thing about Chris is an optional, extremely easily missed conversation he could have with Sheva in the first area of RE5 where he mentions he's not a huge fan of capitalism.

The entire Wesker arc is caused by Chris laughing at Wesker and og Tyrant in RE1. "Wesker, you're pitiful!" "Chris, stop it!" I worked really hard on this ultimate lifeform and betraying all of you!

In a way Resident Evil has always been about capitalism. Its about how a corporation's greed almost ends the world. I think its interesting how much of our fiction warns us against the unchecked evils of capitalism but most people either don't pick up on it or just laugh it off as fiction.

Cardiovorax posted:Please let's not have that conversation here, of all places. I mean I do understand and fair enough. I just think it's also fair to point out that the basic concept of Resident Evil is that unrestrained capitalism in the form of a multinational company who uses bribery and political connections to subvert laws has ended up turning most of its customers into mindless undead beasts and as we later discover the only way they are defeated is by their stock price tumbling after which other lovely multinational companies attempt to scavange their corpse for more potentially profitable things designed to dehumanize and destroy people. I think the closest you get to a RE that isn't literally about "evil capitalist corporation screws innocent people in the name of money and power" is RE4 and that is "Evil rich motherfuckers screw innocent people in the name of money and power" instead. Later RE games are more about acts of terrorism using biological warfare, but yes, the core of the series has always been the corruption of corporations and their effects.
