FYI most normal people in Japan thinks pedoshit is gross too. You're over generalising media of which a small minority of is specifically aimed towards no life weirdos who get off to it, because they're willing to pay exorbitant amounts of money to indulge in it.

Japan has many, many, many societal problems but claiming that all of Japan are pedophiles is racist as hell.

if you made an equivalent joke about america like, idk, "lmfao 'muricans be shooting their children every morning before breakfast", people would still have looked at you funny because you're taking a problem in American society (poor gun control) and extending that to every single American doing horrible and criminal things, i.e. making an extreme generalization. just because it's a joke doesn't mean the content doesn't matter! there are also fundamental differences between joking about a group you're a part of and a group you're not a part of, but I think the joke itself is the biggest issue here

How is fictional school girls directly being called sexual exploitation? gently caress man Ubisoft needs to stop with the animal abuse in Far Cry.

As for Japanese media ya there is some real weird poo poo there but as a country there doesn't seem to be any high amounts of children related crimes whether its violent or sexual. Maybe not having this type of content would reduce those numbers but who knows since there are countries with way strict child media laws but with way worse crime rates despite having similar socio economic situation as Japan.

I am not really into moe anime poo poo but if some people like it w.e. The tearing of the clothes part sounds stupid and should be removed though but there was also a game a while back from Japan where you rip people's underwear's off, I forgot the name. Akihabara something I think.

akiba's trip is a mixed bag cause one sidequest is weirdly judgmental of older women wanting to cosplay but another sidequest culminates in a bunch of women pranking you by pretending they're confessing their love to you and then saying "... hah! you wish, dork. bet you're really embarrassed now, huh? bet you're super angry?" and you have the option to just say "ah. well, i don't really care." and they're all just like "oh. huh. alright." and everyone just walks away

NISA feels like they're in over their head. Working Designs is loving up proudly and telling you the poo poo stain on the plate is a skid mark of quality.

The only Working Designs changes I remember off the top of my head are turning up the difficulty for Popful Mail, and some Bill Clinton sax reference in another game. I know there are more, but I just can't remember any.

With NISA, I remember Ys 8 had the 'Big Hole' goof, and the 'I'm a doctor, that means he's a doctor' goof. Again, there are more, I just can't remember.

From what I remember, a lot of people have been critical of Sony (maybe XSEED to an extent) for altering or censoring nudity or sexual content for games that get released on their systems.

Senran Kagura was one of the games that got affected by that, but I don't think it's limited to anime games. The US version of Devil May Cry 5 had a scene censored on PS4, though I think it's since been patched to be the same as all other versions.

It's odd, because that's something I'd expect more from Nintendo than from Sony (then again, Nintendo adopted Bayonetta after Sega dropped the franchise, so who knows?)

This is one of those games that I've had sitting in my Steam wishlist for a long time, but I've never felt like picking it up, partly out of shame, and partly because the reviews for it make it sound like the game's kind of weak. It's $9.99 USD right now. Is it worth checking out? It kind of looks like a 3D beat-em-up mixed with an RPG.

And on the second-to last time, we had it *almost* right, so we added like +1 to the monsters, but it was like that scene with the fat guy in Meaning of Life where the waiter gives him that one wafer and he explodes. That +1 exceeded some limit internally and made the monsters exponentially harder rather than incrementally. Since it was our last "fix" and we had production discs, I thought we were screwed and had made an unwinnable game. Fortunately, with some time and special strategies, we found out you could finish it. We made one of the hardest games ever - by accident."

(people dug into the game code and found out literally everything he says about how the game is programmed is bullshit and there's no way it could've happened without them going insanely overboard)

they also delayed the rayearth game for like a year to buff enemy stats, inserted jokes about condoms and child abuse, and removed most of the voiced dialog and claimed they did it to make space for voicing other parts of the game... except the jp voices for the dialog they cut them from are still on the disc.

its writing is occasionally really funny but it's also occasionally very not funny. and while three of the story branches are neat, two of them are almost beat-for-beat repeats of each other and they make you replay the first hour every loop which gets really tedious and the combat is like way of the samurai if way of the samurai sucked supreme rear end. ten bucks is about the baseline i'd rec it for but you uh have to really be in the mood for what it's laying down to get anything out of it without just getting annoyed and even then it's... not amazing

Remember that anime that took place at a high school? Or that one episode of that one anime that had a comedy episode that took place at a high school? What was it called? :v:

On a more serious note, one of the things I remember reading is that the reason why there's so much media that focuses on high school stuff is because a lot of it is marketed towards working adults who want to escape back to their high school days, when things were less stressful.

I'm probably misremembering the exact explanation. I just recall reading somewhere games like Tokimeki Memorial or dating sims in general were designed in mind for salarymen who spent most of their time working, and didn't really have the time or money to start a relationship.

Well, that uh...:stare:

Actually, here's something I've been curious about : was there a reason why so many localizations deliberately changed or removed Japanese culture stuff during the 90s? I was thinking about the original localization of Persona 1 the other day, and while I haven't played it myself, I remember how the portraits got changed, how they tried to change it to being in San Francisco, etc. I get some of the stuff like the pharmacy song wasn't something you could feasibly change, but then I think about something like Pokemon's "these 'donuts' are delicious' alteration, and I've never really been clear on why a lot of that was changed.

Re: Sony content changes

In 2018 the game Omega Labryinth Z was refused classification in the UK. It's a mystery dungeon game where the girls power up by growing their boobs. One of the characters was a first year high schooler that "looked young for her age" and carried around a teddy bear.
https://www.cinemablend.com/games/2389002/the-uk-just-banned-a-game-for-the-first-time-in-a-decade

The publisher Pqube then went radio silent and in the end Sony refused to allow them to publish on the platform. Later in the fall, people started noticing some Japanese "all ages visual novels" having some obnoxious light beams over panty shots and fanservice hot springs events being extra steamy. Games in the localization pipeline had additional changes to remove touch features and edit images to be in compliance. Since there were Japanese magazine scans showing uncensored images before the final game launch (or a Switch version) the complainers on the internet had all sorts of images for clickbait. Japanse developers fell in line and newer games take the content policies into consideration so all you hear about now are when someone ports over a pre-2018 game and has to make changes.
