I've been meaning to ask this for almost twenty years, but why do Counter-Strike people (I think I've seen this in other games? I don't generally play multiplayer) constantly switch between weapons whenever they're moving anywhere? It's not 100% of people, but goodness it feels like four out of five people do it. Rapid pistol-rifle-knife-pistol-rifle-knife as they run. Does this provide any benefit? Is it just the effects of having chugged eleven Rockstars?

It got its fill of rage during release, not big enough to really make a dent on the game's lifetime record.

e: ah, thanks for the explanation.

Icey is very good and Beginner's Guide is ok. If you like side scrolling beat em ups, you'll probably dig Icey. If that's not your jam, then you're going to bounce off it hard. Shrecknet just seems to prefer walking sims like Beginner's Guide and slower paced games in general. As the first game from an unknown Chinese indie dev studio and a budget release, it's fantastic.

i do (did?) this all the time in call of duty and it was 100% just having my brain running in a constant state of nervous excitement processing what i could see running around, processing what was pinging on the minimap, what that meant for the state of the game, where i could expect people to be coming from, how many points i needed for a streak, how important that streak was, what my team-mates are up to, who would need support, and how to take an objective, and flicking around weapons while 'idle' was a way to maintain and channel the leakage of that nervous mental energy into nervous physical energy in a way that didn't substantially affect my actual gameplay.

Anyway, a game recommendation! Voxelgram is 3D Picross! Most, if not all of these types of games have been exclusive to the 3DS and/or Switch AFAIK. So far the difficulty has been pretty low, but there's a ton of puzzles + a random mode and the presentation is charming; each puzzle exists within a little diorama and as you complete them you get to fill out the scene with props.

I ended up getting Fallen Order (along with Islanders thanks to this thread, and the Fell Seal and Gen Zero DLCs). I played as far as getting across the gap to the tower, then went back to try Oggdo Boggdo again, and I did worse than when I stumbled into him the first time while exploring. I'll come back at it after some sleep, but so far I'm enjoying it (not that there's been much 'it' yet). BD-1 is cool and I have a white poncho already, so the Jedi fashion show is off to a good start.

As above, the correct option here is 'neither.'

Wasteland has some moments but it's mechanics are atrocious, some of them are so bafflingly terrible that I assumed they were intentionally done wrong, as a joke.

ATOM RPG is better mechanically but the game has a huge problem with trash mobs (some areas have 30 or so rat enemies, which you have to kill one by one in a slow turn-based system), and also the devs suck pretty bad and you shouldn't support them financially.

Edit: Is there a reason to care about points at all if I don't use Steam as a social network and just use it to, you know, buy games?

Wasteland 2 is basically an 80s CRPG. In that it's stuck with an 80s game design mentality of trap character building options, clunky UI and horrible balance. It also flat out punishes you for using certain NPCs in your party by the end of the game, which is a really lovely thing to do when you've invested in them. It's a horrible game.

ATOM is much better as an actual game, being basically old school Fallout, but the Russian developers have... Let's say controversial views and there's an offensive Jewish stereotype in the game.

So yeah, the correct option is neither.

That said, Atom RPG also has a number of trap options, such as the crafting skills. There's practically nothing worth using them for.

If you know Chinese or don’t mind atrocious translation with some short battles:
Tale of Wuxia
Path of Wuxia (EA: Year 1 only) (Good fan translation)

Both are about raising a normal villager in martial academy/secluded sect for a number of years with in between mission to test out your character’s capabilities.

Mission mode are point-and-click advanture with battle and/or mini games. You can fail missions and there’s only like two or three game over.

First game’s school life end at year five, in which you will go out into full open world mission to stop the villain’s scheme.

My favorite part of Tale of Wuxia's translation is that there's a recurring NPC who gives you the first bit of a poem and then challenges you to come up with the best final line. The translators basically just threw up their hands and gave up, because the poem and dialog options are all still in chinese but with an added [pick the third option] at the end, so you just click the one they tell you to without understanding anything and the guy gets really impressed at how good you are with poetry.
