TNT reportedly had an optimistic benchmark of 500k a week for Dynamite and would've been ecstatic with anything higher than that. Clearly they're going to pull the plug for AEW doing *only* 600-800 for months of empty-arena shows during a global pandemic (while running a PPV that by all accounts smashed modest expectations). Weren't they basically holding steady against NBA games before the season got halted? Like, Wednesday night games on ESPN aren't as big as TNT's Thursday doubleheader, which is where all the marketing muscle goes into, but the NBA is still ratings king in the fall/winter, so nobody was going to kill them for losing to, like, Wizards/Heat or whatever random matchup gets thrown on Wednesdays. Also they were doing a lot of crossover synergy, with TNT announcers plugging Dynamite and AEW guys showing up in the studio with Shaq and Barkley.
