unfortunately I don't think you can be full communist in Dragon Commander. The lizards are the closest and are basically social democrats iirc

The politics side of Dragon Commander was novel enough that I enjoyed it for a full playthrough, but I really didn't enjoy the gameplay. The turn based strategic layer was OK, if a bit simplistic, but I hated the RTS part of it. I might have enjoyed it if there was an option to let the AI command your troops and just fly around as a dragon blowing stuff up, but having to constantly switch got really annoying. By the end of the game, I was just ignoring the RTS aspect altogether and just auto-resolving all the battles. Sometimes I think about doing another playthrough, because the part where you get to legalize gay marriage which causes a skeleton to yell at you was pretty great.

troubleshooter: abandoned children delivers on being korean cartoon x-com with disgaea-level customization and depth. just replace item worlds with tons of loving abilities to mix and match. you can make some wild builds in this game. unfortunately the translation is really poor, and while i wouldn't mind if it was just the story there are lots of errors and confusing statements in the mechanical stuff that makes it hard to pick things. combat is loads of fun tho

'Playing' Detroit Become Human and it definitely seems like the least aggresively dumb out of the David Cage games. The gameplay is still the same inane dogshit 'press butan' stuff, but the story has some decent reactivity. Not Alpha Protocol levels, but way more than any Telltale game. So far I've finished it once and there seemed to be a decent amount of branching opening up around mid-way, some even leading to completely different chapters I think. Started a second playthrough where I intend to just antagonize everyone and be a colossal fuckup and see what happens. Got to Kara's chapter and looks like I deleted Alice from the story, lol It could have been a decent game if it wasn't a CYOA movie. Also you can lead a slave rebellion and shoot some cops. The resolution of that path is surprisingly decent,. I was expecting a standard vidyagame libbrain 'violence bad' take, but you do kinda achieve your goals by the end of it.

at best, david cage games are just interactive fiction games with insane production values. it's a bit weird that he makes games with stratospheric production costs in a genre that is 99% dominated by games made by two people on a budget of $10, but whatever. the problem is that the fiction that he writes is dogshit

how much you get out of a total war game is pretty much entirely dependent on how cool you think the setting is. the warhammer ones at least have cool monsters and poo poo and the battles involve something more than just hammer+anviling opposing armies all day.

get the original Rome Total War or Attila, Rome 2 sucks. I don’t like Attila much to be honest, either, the cities/disasters/migration system all don’t work very well and you spend way too much time managing fiddly nonsense like that weird coherence religiosity mechanic and the attempts to gamify other low medieval things like deurbanization were laudable but just not a lot of fun imo. the biggest problem with Attila is that all the stuff you do to get to fights is overcomplicated and takes a long time and then the fights themselves aren’t really as good as older games the original Rome on the other hand is a perfect balance of the two if you can deal with the bad graphics. imo that and medieval 2 are the best of the series with warhammer 2 a close runner up Napoleon is fun too

yeah EU is one of the most impressively thorough mods i've played in terms of pure historicism. i love stainless steel as well but these days i don't usually have the wherewithal to play either since they're both hard as poo poo and require a major commitment to strategic planning anyway i'm thinking i might buy one more thing during the summer sale and i want a good FPS. i've been playing day of defeat source and battlefield bad company 2 and i'm sort of considering picking up post scriptum. anyone got any thoughts on that? i was looking at war of rights because i'd love a civil war game but between the name and the bad reviews that just seems like a bad call
