What? Awesome.
I played the poo poo out of the multiplayer for Renegade.

Mostly what I remember is proper organization of GDI Engineers being pretty difficult to stop because NOD's obelisk of light couldn't fire fast enough to kill 3 of them before they could C4 it into the ground.
Or cheesing it up with the GDI rocket truck things from across the map because they could hit the tip of the obelisk from their own base.

I'm starting to realize that the obelisk kind of sucked.

All of this can be spun by cultists into something favorable, e.g. he is an experienced developer who was booted by evil megacorp publishers, is not afraid to 'tell it like it is', is true to his 'vision' down to the smallest detail etc. etc.

So now that you're in space, where it's VERY DARK, you want a neon lit dashboard?

I mean, you probably want a bright light when you're driving in a very dark environment, but the light is traditionally pointed ahead of your vehicle, not right in your face

First off, I'm glad EA stopped dicking around with the IP and let Petroglyph studios (founded by ex-westwood employees after Ea dissolved them) work on C&C Remastered. It is absolutely worth it.

Second,I completely missed Renegade X when it first came out. I played the poo poo out of the original one, and this team's dedication is pretty inspiring.

poo poo let's not forget about mods and games that did so well and were so impressive and they became legitimate purchasable games, like Counterstrike, Day of defeat, Insurgency, Red Orchestra, Black Mesa.

Star Citizen on the outside had everything it could possibly hope for. A dedicated fanbase, a long drought of space games, a deal and backing of crytek with the engine. They chose to be so astronomically greedy while touting that they are the underdog, it really is disgusting.

I was worried that they not only posioned the well of crowdfunding forever, but ultimately be final nail in the coffin of the very genre they claim to be rescuing.

The only positive I can see from this is that interest for space games are coming back despite CIGs efforts to try and end it.

you drop the hammer on chris pretty hard here, my verdict would not be that devastating i guess.
but after all the bits of information we got through the years i suppose that he is not able to do what he does.
if a boss of 500 is spending his time micromanaging some art assets that means trouble because its a total fail in focus, since a person only has 24 hours a day. he should better have real good managers beneath him.
also a person which is omnipresent during the hype and disappears during the hard times, thats another fail.

but since we are just spectators in this performance art piece we can only hope that this will all lead to some more lulz before the inevitable game over

That's my hope, too. Chris' appearances and the soundtrack where the two best things that came out of this. The 2015 holiday stream where he played his own creation was peak-Chris Roberts. Or the Sandworm that never did that before. Never. But sadly, even on that front Chris fails to deliver nowadays.

Anyway, I get the impression that he saw all of this as a big, personal playground:
- He feels like doing mo-cap with AAA-actors, so he just does it. Hiring someone with actual experience in this field? Nah, where is the fun in that? Results 6 years later: None
- Failing to deliver anything of substance over 8 years with SQ42 M.I.A.? You know what, I feel like designing moon clothes, that's what's important right now.
- Absolutely no idea what this guy is doing? Well, it must be poo poo anyway, let him redo it for some superficial reason pulled straight from my rear end.

I think this guy has a serious problem trusting his employees and delegating stuff. His approach might have worked in the early 90s when dev-teams where way smaller, but in todays video game industry? drat, the end credits for Infinite Warfare rolled for five full minutes. If you have someone at the helm who's convinced.. no, knows he could do every single task better himself ("I judge times by how fast I could do it" - CRobs) is just a recipe for failure.

However as a social experiment it's interesting: "What happens if you give a Narcissist unlimited money?". I think every single publisher would have canned this project, at the latest in 2015 and cut the losses. But now with crowdfunding, who knows, I think the title of the most expensive failure in video game history is all but safe. The message announcing the end of the project will blame other people and factors, that's a given with Chris, but it will be a funny read nonetheless.

But maybe this will never happen, I don't think that Chris' disappearance is a coincidence. It might be he's going through a divorce right now, fighting for his mansion, and just has other things on his mind than Star Citizen. But it could also be the case that Calders tasked some people with looking a bit deeper into their investment. Maybe they conducted anonymous surveys with the employees, attended some meetings, whatever, but it became clear pretty fast that every missed deadline, every wasted dollar and every bad decision lead to Chris. So they had a talk with him, convincing him it would be better if he stays in the background for now. With his paycheck intact, of course.

The video... :gary: I know, I shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, but the guy in the pillar talk video with the funny haircut looks mentally challenged and even physically unable to criticize Chris. drat.

:reddit:: And taking into account a bunch of awful subreddits that weren't banned, the refunds subreddit won't probably be dealt with either being tame in comparison. And who knows, maybe Reddit considers Star Citizen supporters who don't like being harassed as some kind of majority and then it is perfectly okay to be harassed according to the updated policy.
