Really digging on Barren Altar. Blackened doom never really clicked for me before, but this band gets the dynamics right. The cassette master is a bit rough though, imo.

Spectral Lore is releasing a new album under a new project, Mystras. The first preview track is a scorcher:

Ayloss is so cool.

This man is a beast. I would expect there to be a strong positive correlation between lockdown and the amount one man band BM getting recorded. (I know Mystras is not such a solo project, but thinking Spectral Lore.) Some people are expecting a 'baby boom' to come out 9 months from now - I'm expecting a DSBM boom.

On a definitely not DSBM note, Winterfylleth are back with a solid album and I dare you not to smile when track 2 throws in a call-back to 'Wayfarer'. I love that little motif.

Also thanks to the metal thread am enjoying the new Uprising

When I do release new music, it’s going to be anonymously more than likely, and will be far, far from the realms of metal music anyways, so it won’t matter much either way, I suppose.

I wonder if he'll be including extras like "STOP the Madness" patches for people who pre-order diehard therapy packages.

What are your go to black metal bands/songs/albums when it comes to awesome bass lines?

I'm not much into Marduk, but Christraping Black Metal has a few cool parts in the bass especially the start of the song with the figure in 7/4.

For me it's As flittermice as Satans spys by Darkthrone. You hear the same guitar riff droning for 3/4 of the song, but the bass plays a melody towards the end that changes everything. It makes it sound almost happy which makes it even loving creepier than the rest of the song.

Then it would be the album Martwa Polska Jesień by Furia - https://paganrecords.bandcamp.com/album/martwa-polska-jesie or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G89Uj6g3UaM if you prefer YT link. Particularly the first two tracks, which are a) insanely catchy and b) have cool basslines.

Wonder if they'll pull a Gaza and just reform under a new name minus the alleged rapist.

Hopefully. Disbanding was the right thing to do. Also apparently not someone integral to the band.

Everytime I revisit some Borknagar albums, I'm always astounded as to why they're not more discussed. I get it, they're proggy which isn't everyone's cup of tea but seriously what a fantastic band.

Extremely good metal taste man John Darnielle said something about “norwegian metalheads who like Pink Floyd” being a good genre of metal and :yeah:
