And that doesn't even make sense because I can't get HBO Max on my Fire Stick. Its all weird.

Keep the cast and setting locked into the decade that it came out in, or keep up with the time in the real world and we catch up with the French brothers 10 or so years later? I believe I read on either Josh or Bill's twitter that it's a "period" piece set in like 2000, mostly focusing on Gus and Wally. EL BROMANCE posted:Yeah YouTube or downloads probably your best bet just because it was controversial enough back when it aired, Netflix et al would be unlikely to reopen that can of worms. While sort of true, it's weirder than that. When the show was first airing, no one in India really knew about it or gave a crap. It wasn't until a Maxim article had a weird cartoon about Gandhi getting beaten up did India take notice. When a lot of Indians started searching for that Maxim article/US depictions of Gandhi, they came across the Clone High version. Then a relatively small number of protesters gathered around the Viacom building in India: quote:On January 30, 2003, the 55th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi's assassination, approximately 150 protesters (including members of parliament) gathered in New Delhi and vowed to fast in response to Clone High.[12] Tom Freston, the head of Viacom (owner of MTV), was visiting the network's India branch and was "trapped in the building", according to Miller. In 2014, he recalled that protesters "basically threatened that they'd revoke MTV's broadcasting license in India if they didn't take the show off the air".[6] If Tim Freston wasn't there at that time, I doubt it would have been canceled, or at least it would have been cancelled just for low ratings and not because of issues in India. Lord and Miller even tried to get a second season by saying at some point they'd reveal Gandhi was actually a clone of Gary Coleman by mistake, but no deal. The articles I've read on the comeback make no mention of Gandhi, so I wonder if he'll be there or even mentioned at all.

If the premise of the Clone High revival is the clones getting unfrozen in the modern day and it's still them making references to all the movies and teen shows they were referencing in the original then that means that it may very well be the opening salvo in the inevitable rise of 2000s nostalgia. I'm not sure what you're trying to say with this. There was a point in the mid 2010s where Mtv was focusing on more scripted shows and less reality shows but they switched network heads and began focusing on reality shows again because they were cheaper to produce and preyed on the nostalgia of people who watched in the late 00s. It's a cycle.

So like while it starts with Shawn dragging him kicking and screaming along on his adventures and burdening him with these mocking names and stories, after a few seasons Gus is just having a ball with it and doing it to Shawn when he gets the chance. Its the same dynamic with Juliet who you kind of always know knows Shawn is full of poo poo, but also she enjoys it too much to want to call him on it and deal with the consequences. Or even Lassiter who does want to call Shawn out and expose him, but also really respects and values his help. Okay fine I'm finally going to give Psych a watch.

The corona-virus Psych marathon had little zoom segments bracketing the commercial breaks. I wish Psych had attached their outtakes to the end of the episodes or made them easier to view on streaming. The outtakes are fantastic, of those in 320p on YouTube that I've found. They attached them to the end of the Karate episode. James Roday improvises a lot and gets super raunchy sometimes. Plus there's weird poo poo like the Three Hole Punch story: At one point during filming, James Roday called it a "Three Hole Puncher" and the writer(?) came on to set freaking out about how much funnier "Three Hole Punch" is and after that it became some huge thing where everyone on set would scream fake laughter whenever there was a three hole punch in a scene. Also I made a Psych thread before my most recent rewatch/ to discuss the new movie if anyone else is watching it. https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3923809 AARD VARKMAN fucked around with this message at 03:32 on Jul 3, 2020 |

Watched a new episode of Blindspot tonight, and saw a split field diopter shot. Then two hours later, watched a season 6 episode of Star Trek TNG with yet another split field diopter shot that was almost exactly the same with regards to the characters in the same position on the screen. Fuckin’ weird. *in Richard Dreyfuss voice* This...means something.

Rewatching Psych I'm struck that (a) the pilot is really way less fun than the show and (b) Anne Dudek is real boring in it which is funny because recasting her with Maggie Lawson not only was probably huge for the show but also real good for her career.

Well it was a pilot, and part of that is figuring out how well the cast plays off each-other. Especially in one that's largely a comedy.

Oh yeah, I've watched Psych a ton of times so I know the cast finds that vibe and Maggie Lawson really changes up the dynamic. I was just watching the pilot and it struck me, in large part because Dudek went on to have such success after this and she clearly was just miscast. And to their credit they recognized it and immediately improved the show with Lawson. But mostly, yeah, its just a pilot that leans a little heavier on the "detective show" thing and less on the cast dynamic that would make the show.

One thing about Psych that I appreciated is that it didn’t really peak and flame out like a lot of shows do. Season 1 is as good as 3 which is as good as season 7. A lot of the times by season 5 or so you can tell the cast is phoning it in but it’s made with real enthusiasm throughout.

Most of the rest of them have an over arching premise that like they have to keep stringing out to justify the show and it just kind of gets tedious after awhile. Psych kinda had that early on with the whole "if you get caught you'll be arrested" thing, but they figure out to just play that for laughs most of the time and just base the show on the characters.
